    Red Sox 6, Twins 5:
    Another 8th inning rally…

Posted by Christine E. at 1:15 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (3)

When I came home from my stepdaughter’s All-Star Game, the score was 5-2, so I went about my evening stuff and when I looked again, the Sox has scored 4 runs in the 8th inning and they were up 6-5. So I sat and watched Jonathan Papelbon get his 27th save of the season–of course, not without some drama, as Nick Punto (one of the few Twins I even know anymore) has a 12 pitch at bat, which ended in him getting a double because Coco could not get to the ball and it got past him…He ended up at 3rd, but went no further…

But the best part about this game(besides the win) is that fact that Jon Lester stayed consistent, and went 7.1 innings, throwing 117 pitches (78 for strikes) while giving up 5 runs on 9 hits while walking 23 and striking out 6. Not the greatest line in the world, but competent…

And what is UP with CC Sabathia, who (unjustly) beat out Josh Beckett for the Cy Young last year going to the BREWERS??? For prospects???? That is WAY weird…

And I know that the July 31st deadline is about 3 weeks away but can people please PLEASE stop stop STOP talking about bringing freakin Barry Bonds to the Sox? The mere thought of that makes me nauseous–and it Theo suddenly completely loses his mind and decides to add him to the team, I TRULY dont think I can watch Red Sox baseball anymore. Winning is NOT worth having him on the team. Its bad enough we have to deal with Manny and his nonsense–but do the Sox REALLY need a CHEATER and a malcontent???

Fortunately, Theo doesn’t seem to be all that impressed: “I’ve gotten a lot of questions about (Barry Bonds) [recently] and that’s really the first I’ve heard of it. Again, I think we’re looking more internal with respect to any bats that we might need. It hasn’t really come up internally.”

Big Papi, PLEASE get better and come back soon, so this crap can stop…

Speaking of the ridiculous, apparently Manny Ramirez has some unclaimed property in Massachusetts, valued at $10,049.56. So a check in that amount (originally from Reebok) was waiting for Manny to pick up at the Treasurer’s Office–and was claimed by his agent. The total list has over $1.5 BILLION in unclaimed property…

On August 17th, for the 4th year in a row, The Commissioner, Peter Gammons, and Theo will host the “Hot Stove, Cool Music–Summer Sessions” at The Bank of American Pavilion, beginning at 6:00pm. (Doors open at 5) Anticipated guest include: Blues legend Buddy Guy, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, with more to come. Tickets are $46 and can be purchased here. The Hot Stove events (winter and summer) have raised over 1.4 million for “A Foundation to be Named Later“–the foundation founded by Theo and his twin, Paul, which helps no profits who help the underprivileged young people around Boston…

If this keeps up, the July Player of the Month may very well be another member of the Sox–Dustin Pedroia. In the midst of a 16 game hitting streak (the longest by a Sox player in 2008–and the longest for him–ever) he is hitting a gaudy .486, with 6 doubles, 3 homers and 9 RBI’s…

Today: The Sox go for the sweep against Minnesota. Josh Beckett throws 1st pitch at 1:05pm, opposed by Twins starter Livan Hernandez.

Currently, the score is Minnesote 3, Sox 0, in the bottom of the 3rd inning, and  Youk has made his 2nd error at 1st base–on a pickoff throw….currently the Sox are batting, runners on 1st and 3rd, 2  out…
