    Red Sox 9, Oreos 4:
One more win for the sweep…

Posted by Christine E. at 10:55 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

And to return to Fenway with a .500 road trip…Which, while not the best, is a damn site better than the less than .400 road Avg the Sox have been carrying around…

Holy buckets! TEN…MORE…DAYS…until I am at Fenway Park again–have I mentioned how much I cannot wait???? And I am going to try to write updates while on my trip–but we’ll see how that goes…

500 and 501 for Manny: Well, the pressure (if there ever way any) if off for Manny Ramirez, as he got his 500th homer during the 7th inning of the Oreo’s game on Saturday night–and then promptly got 501 in yesterday’s game to help with the win. Also joining Manny in the bash-fest yesterday was Mike Lowell and JD Drew…

As part of the celebration for the 500th homer, Manny will autograph the ball to auction off for charity (are you listening, Barry Bonds??) and will be donating his battling helmet, as well as the lineup card from the game…

Bartolo Colon has put up another good start, His line for yesterday’s outing: throwing 103 pitches over 6+ innings giving up 4 runs and 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2…Yesterday’s win takes him to 3-0 with a 3.50 ERA. From Colon: “I feel good. I’ve been working very hard from start to start. From here on out, the velocity should be better.”

A pretty big cause for concern? Big Papi will be returning to the Fens a bit earlier than everyone else, like today, as he is scheduled for a MRI on his left wrist. From Papi: “I’ve never felt anything like this before. I’ve been swinging my whole life. I just took a swing like I normally do, and pop.” Right now, the Sox are calling it a “wrist strain” ohhhh boy…..

Despite the fact that the Sox sucked on the road in May, they managed to end the month with a 17-12 record, as well as leading the league in homers (37) and 4th in ERA (3.66)

And have I mentioned lately that it’s JUNE and the Skanks are STILL dead last in the AL East??? But Tampa Bay is still 1st, so what alternate reality are we living in???

Tonight: Time Wakefield, who was on the losing end of a 1-0 loss last week against Eric Bedard–will go for the sweep against the Oreos to complete this 4 game series and 10 game road trip. Jeremy Guthrie gets the start for the cookies….1st pitch: 7:05pm

    1. Ted D says:

Christine, one of the first things that popped in my head when Manny hit #500 was the fact that all his teammates were outside the dugout greeting him with hugs and high fives. Bonds teammates never even left the dugout except on the one that broke Aarons record.

      Pretty telling.

Lord, please don’t let Papi be hurt too bad.
