Red Sox 7, Tampa Bay 3:
Walking a Mile in their shoes…

Posted by Christine E. at 2:38 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

There are a million and one clichés to describe the sweep of the Satan Fish (oh, I’m sorry, they are the “Rays of Sunshine” now–could that possibly ANY lamer? They must have a 6 year old heading their Marketing Department) but my favorite is above: “Before you judge, walk a mile in someone’s shoes. Then you are a mile away–and have their shoes…”

Ok, It probably sounded better in my head….

So, despite the fact that the bench got even thinner this weekend, with Brandon Moss having an emergency appendectomy on Saturday night (after going 2-4 (including the 2nd homer of his career) in Friday night’s game, while not feeling well!) From Tito: “They did the procedure (Saturday) night and he’s going to get checked out and head probably to his apartment (tonight). We’re still trying to sort out what’s in his best interests — probably let him go home for 10 days and then maybe to Florida to ramp back up, just depending on the timetable, how he’s doing.” Craig Hansen was called up today to take his spot on the active roster…

Fortunately, both Jacoby Ellsbury and JD Drew are back in action, so the Sox are in less of a lurch…althought Julio Lugo is still the outfield backup–UGH…

But David Ortiz was out again yesterday, as his knee saga continues…From Tito: “David has that little spot on his knee. I don’t know if you’d term it ‘tendonitis,’ but he bruised it the other day…when it’s wet and cold, a day game after a night game, he was just having trouble getting it loose, we didn’t have anything on the field…”

Yes, Jon Lester pitched pretty well–and well enough for the win (6 innings, giving up 1 runs on 4 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5) it still took him 115 pitches (72 for strikes) to go those 6 innings…so I don’t totally agree with the assessment that this was his “2nd strong start”…I think he is throwing WAY too many pitches….

Looks like Alex Cora will be heading to Pawtucket this week for a 3-game rehab assignment, with the hopes he can be reactivated on Saturday. AC has been on the DL since April 16th with a sprained right elbow…

In a similar plan, Sean Casey will do 3 games of his own, beginning on Thursday, with hopes to be activated when he is eligible on Sunday…

Here’s a shocker–the Sox as a team have 18 errors–the most in the majors–and guess who has NINE of those? Yep, you guess its, Julio Lugo–who made #9 during Sunday’s game…He is so useless….

But how bout some funky steal stats?

    • The Sox had FIVE yesterday–including 2 DOUBLE steals. The last time they had 5 steals? 2002
    • The Sox now have as many steals (26) as homers as a team…
    • Jacoby Ellsbury is 20 for 20 in steal attempt/successes…

Who would have though the Sox would ever have such a good running game? Sure, they have had 1 or 2 guys who steal, but this is pretty amazing…

Tonight: The Sox kick off a 10 game road trip with 4 against the reeling Tigers–How embarrassing is that–the 2nd highest payroll in baseball–and they are sucking royally. Let’s just hope they continue to do so–at least for the next 4 games. Daisuke takes the mound against Bonderman, Jeremy Bonderman. 1st pitch: 7:05pm…
