Red Sox 0, Tampa Bay 3:
    Swept…By the Devil Rays???!

Posted by Christine E. at 3:05 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (4)

At the risk of sounding like a broken record: Are you freakin KIDDING me???

It’s bad enough the Sox have now lost 5 in a row–But the last 3 were to Tampa Bay….and two of those games were pitched brilliantly by the starter:

    Clay Buchholtz (Saturday Night): 8IP (A complete game, no less…), with 3 hits, 2 runs, 9 strikeouts and 2 walks–Lost 2-1…

    Josh Beckett (Sunday Afternoon): 7IP with 4 hits, 2 runs, 13(yes, THIRTEEN!) strikeouts and 1 walk–Lost 3-0…

It certainly did not help that the all the Sox (who went to Tampa Bay leading all of baseball with a .302 batting average, .374 OBP, and 55 doubles) could manage ALL WEEKEND was 5 runs–that’s it–5 stinkin runs…

How long has it been since the Sox have lost 5 games in a row??? Fortunately, with all of their other wins, their managed to maintain a decent 12-8 record in the 20 game span…and an “eh” 14-11 for the month of April…

A big consolation is the fact that the Skanks have been sucking pretty bad–and Jorge Posada is on his way to the DL (and an orthopedic surgeon) with shoulder issues…

One shining spot right now–Mike Lowell, who spent the weekend DH-ing and playing 3rd base with the PawSox, has been cleared to join The Show for tomorrow’s game–Let’s hope that perhaps he can help right this ship…

    Talk about an alternate universe:

    • Tampa Bay and the Oreo are now sharing the TOP of the AL East…yes, they are tied for 1st place…
    • Tampa Bay has NEVER swept the Sox in a series of 3 games or more…
    • Tampa Bay, with their 14-11 record, has never been 3 games above .500 this late in the season….

Tomorrow, after being off tonight( for the 1st time in 3 weeks) the Sox head home for a 6-game set, starting with a 3-game series with Toronto, who kicked their butt when they were up at the Rogers Center (with a sweep) Jon Lester gets the start and throws 1st pitch at 7:05pm. He is opposed by Blue Jay ace Roy Halladay…

That was embarrassing as sin. I know it’s early in the season, so the bats haven’t come alive yet, but this is kind of a wake up call if you ask me.

      Hi Kaylee:

Good to hear from you! Hope you are feeling better!

Hi Mitch: you are right–horribly embarrassing–and I think if all the injuries do not let up, its going to be a very long season…Thanks so much for your comment, and welcome!

      Go Sox!
