Only got to see bits and pieces of this game–and that was probably a good thing–I think if I had to see Mike Timlin give up FOUR RUNS IN THE 8TH INNING I probably would have thrown something at the TV…Did you know his ERA is now a bountiful 27.00??? And no one is thinking this is a problem???
And the fact that the Sox are still another 11 games until they get a day off–and starters haven’t been going deep into games (6 2/3 innings has been the longest) which means the bullpen is tired and overworked…and it will probably get worse…as 3/5 of our current starters are “nibblers” these days….
It seemed no one who took the mound, for either team, fared very well. Clay Buchholz could not get out of the 4th inning, giving p 7 runs on 8 hits over 3 2/3, Chien-Ming Wang was sucky as well, giving up 8 runs over 9 hits and could not get an out in the 5th inning.
And the bleeding did not stop when the teams got to the bullpen…every time I glanced at the score it was higher and higher and higher…The only Red Sox pitcher out of the pen that was any good last night was David Aardsma who threw 2 scoreless innings..
And of course, no thrashing would be a complete without a throwing error by Julio Lugo–6 errors for the season–that is 16 games old….he’s on pace for about 60 for 2008–WONDERFUL…
Coco injured–AGAIN: this time it’s a sore upper and inner right hamstring -apparently from bunting in Cleveland. While it probably won’t be a DL trip for him, looks like Jacoby will be getting some starting time in Center. From Coco: “I’m OK. It’s just sore…I think it was the other day, trying to do all those dang bunts and then being in a coat and not being warm. That tightened me up and I’m sore, so we’ll take it day by day.”
More wounded: Youk got hit in the foot with a foul ball in the 6th ing and went for X-Rays, which were negative. Jed Lowrie played 3rd base in his absence–enough already! The Sox cannot have any more injuries!
Tonight: Josh Beckett will hopefully put a stop to the Skankee nonsense and restore some order to the universe–and hopefully throw 7 or 8 innings… He is opposed by Mike “I can’t get my fastball above 85 most days” Mussina… 1st pitch 7:05pm…
