    Red Sox 4, Toronto 7:
    Well, THAT was awful…

Posted by Christine E. at 10:05 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

OK, am I the ONLY one who saw Manny Delcarmen giving up that Grand Slam to the Big Hurt coming from about 15 miles away? It was just one of those cosmic absolutes–you KNEW that the pitch was coming–a fast ball over the heart of the plate to give Frank Thomas the pitch he needed to hit his 11th Grand slam of the year…

And its not like this was the 1st time–he gave up a 2 run double to Frank Thomas on Friday night, which pretty much lead to the Sox loss in THAT game…

I understand the bases were loaded–but this is a BAD match up–if Tito had to bring in Delcarmen–why didn’t he just walk Thomas? There were 2 outs in the inning–and why let one of their best players beat you…Yeah, it would have been a run–but it may not have been FOUR…

This certainly was not the way I envision Josh Beckett’s 1st start would be…He was not horrible–but he certainly was not the dominant Josh Beckett…Throwing 92 pitches (59 for strikes) he struck out 6 and walked 4 over 4 2/3…Fortunately, he is feeling OK: “Health-wise I’m fine, but obviously it was not the result you want…But health-wise, I felt good.” I think this was just a matter of fatigue…They should have waited and let him pitch the opener tomorrow…

The Sox hit 3 homers over the course of the day, Jacoby Ellsbury, Jason Varitek (who’s homer was his 150th) and JD Drew—who has been on fire–lets hope it stays that way…

The marshmallow era has officially come to an end: Kyle Snyder, in a shocking move (at least to me) was designated for assignment over the weekend to open up the Roster spot for Beckett…The Sox now have 10 days to trade him, or, if he cleared waivers, he could go to Pawtucket, which is not likely, as he struggled through most of the Spring, giving up 4 runs in 1 2/3 innings…Good Luck Kyle, you were a good egg…

So let me get this straight: We are paying out shortstop about $9 million dollars a year, and for that amount of money we get a .238 batting average and FOURS errors in TWO games???? He had THREE of the horrific 4 errors the Sox made yesterday (Mike Lowell made the other) Please, PLEASE Theo, tell me, WHAT is the fascination with this guy?????

TOO MANY little Black Dots: As of today, with their 3-4 record–the Sox are dead last in the AL East standings–with the Freakin Oreos in 1st place–how is THAT for and alternate reality???

Coming up: After their last off day for the next 3 weeks, it’s RING DAY! The Sox return home, get their World Series rings and kick off a 6 game home stand…Daisuke gets the ball for 1st pitch at 2:05pm, Kenny Rogers gets the start for Detroit. I really wish they had done this game at 7:05–I know its always a day game for Opening day–but not everyone can get the time of from work to be home at 1:15 to catch everything–Fire up the TiVo!!!

Christine, in defense of Lugo, Mike Lowell had 3 errors in one game in week one last season. Now, I’m not comparing Lugo to Lowell, but I’m just saying…

And I’m with you; when MDC came in, I had a sinking feeling. I’d have rather him let Beckett try and get out of his own mess.

      Thank God for TiVo!!!

I agree with you on the Lugo thing, but I don’t expect to see Lowrie inthere any time soon simply because of the $9 million. Julio will have to suck for some time to make that happen. (I mean suck more for a long time…)
