    April 1, 2008:
    Happy Opening Day!…er…Again…

Posted by Christine E. at 9:46 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

In less than 12 hours the Sox will continue their quest for a 2nd World Series in as many years. While I think their chances are pretty good, I am not as confident as I was when Curt Schilling’s arm wasn’t about to fall off, or before Josh Beckett threw his back out, or Jon Lester or Clay Buchholtz haven’t been able to get out of the 4th inning in a while…and Daisuke has problems getting out of the 5th inning without throwing 120 pitches…

I know, I know, this is only Game 3 of 162–its a marathon, not a sprint–blah blah blah…But I really hope that they are not going to break my heart this year…

Looks like JD Drew will be in the lineup for Wednesday’s game…From JD: “Unless something crazy happens I think I should be right on track…As long as everything stays on track, I’ll be ready to get the season under way. I really hated missing Opening Day in Japan. Just because of the circumstances, I couldn’t really perform the way I wanted to. I’ve had some time to try to heal up and I should be ready to go.” I reallyREALLY hope this isn’t a preview of a season full of injuries…As expected, Jacoby will get the start in right for tonight’s game

Hey, did you hear? Nomar is on the DL again–what the HELL happened to him? No one loved Nomar more than me, but it always seems like he is so pessimistic and overly cautious when he gets injured–right away it hurts really bad and he can’t play…like when he was with the Sox in 2004 and he had the Achilles problem–freakin DRAGGED that out forever. Dustin Pedroia played September and all of the postseason with a broken hamate bone–If Nomar had the same injury, I think he would shut himself down in a heartbeat, and not played another game…

Bobby Kielty has accepted his assignment with Pawtucket, and will not be going anywhere for the time being. He had an option, which states that he could become a free agent April 1 if the Sox did not add him to the 25 man roster…Glad you decided to stay, Bobby…

It’s looking like Mike Timlin will not be off the DL until next week sometime. He had the stitches on his right ring finger removed over the weekend and will need a rehab assignment to make sure he is ready to go…

This year’s bullpen shuffles should be very interesting–the only pitcher who has any minor league options left in the ‘pen is Jonathan Papelbon–and I dont see him going anywhere…

The new Red Sox Lottery ticket will come out next week on April 8th–Fenway’s Opening Day, costing $20 each, and offers a $10 million grand prize, (20) $1 million prizes and (100) Red Sox road trips. Only 10 million of the tickets are available for sale, and they are expected to generate $23 million in revenue for the state of Massachusetts…

Coming up: 10:05 pm, the Sox vs Oakland redux–Daisuke and Joe Blanton, redux…

Hope everyone gets a nap today…

Christine, the way I look at it at least they are getting the injuries out of the way early.

Hopefully Daisuke pitches a great game tonight and bounces back from the Japan game.

      Hope things are going well.

      Ted
