    March 31, 2008:
    Happy Birthday to me…

    One…more…day…

So the trek around the world is over, the 3 exhibition games (including the one that broke the record of most attendees at a baseball game–115,300) are done–and in a little more than 24 hours, the Red Sox will continue the 2008 campaign with a game in Oakland in the middle of the night…

Can I just tell you how grateful I am that I missed yesterday’s game? Thanks to Bobby Kielty for saving Sox bacon by getting the ONLY hit of yesterday’s debacle of a game–and for me, these are the WORST games to lose–even worse than blowouts–because you sit there and watch strike out after strike out and popup and GIDP, and you KNOW they can do better, but its just out after out after out…

Am I the only one that is a bit concerned about Clay Buchholz? He got pretty lit up yesterday (the 4-run 3rd inning yesterday), and he had been pretty awful this spring (1-3–with a 10.03 ERA). I really think he needs to go to Pawtucket and develop a little more….I don’t think he is ready for prime time…

JD Drew’s status for tomorrow night is still up in the air–he has been nursing back woes since he strained it during batting practice in Japan…If he is unable to play, Jacoby will take right field…

Looks like there is a chance Bobby Kielty will stay with the Sox. He has already agreed to go to Pawtucket, if he does not get a better offer from another team…He would have been a lock for the 4th outfielder, but then Coco got injured, which prevented other teams from scouting him and potentially trading for him during Spring training. Now that he is on the mend, hopefully the Sox will be able to move him…The thing is–if Kielty goes elsewhere, and Coco gets traded–who will be the 4th outfielder???

Josh Beckett is still on track to get a start over the weekend, and will pitch an intrasquad game tomorrow morning, with an eye towards stretching him out to pitch 5+ innings. Tomorrow’s goal? 65 pitches…From Josh:”…I’m trying to make this a much more accelerated process and be further along than maybe my pitch count shows I am with 47 pitches. But getting into the mindset of thinking through an at-bat, thinking through a pitch sequence, stuff like that.” He is eligible to come off the DL on Thursday…

Speaking of Thursday–WHY are the Sox getting an off-day already? They play 2, they get all these days off (exhibition don’t count for me) then they play 2 more and get another day off, and then they play the Toronto series and get MONDAY off! Although, to be fair, that is their last day off until the 28th of April…

Coming up: The Sox play game #3 of the 4 game series against Oakland tomorrow, Daisuke gets his 2nd start of the season, and will hopefully fare better than his 1st start, when he threw 95 pitches in 5 innings and walked 5 and struck out 6. Joe Blanton once again pitches for Oakland. 1st pitch: 10:05PM…
