    Red Sox 6, Oakland 5: In 10 innings…
    Happy Opening Day!

Posted by Christine E. at 11:40 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

How WEIRD is it that the Sox are finished with today’s baseball–even with extra innings–before 10:00am…strange….At least they won…not that it was a pretty win…Daisuke was not super, going 5 throwing 95 pitches–only 51 for strikes, and giving up 2 runs on 2 hits (including 1 homers) while walking 5 and striking out 6…Could have been alot worse…

I have mentioned before how I find it distasteful that Jonathan Papelbon was campaigning for dollars during his recent contract negotiations. More of the same from Paps: “Now that Rivera has set the tone, my goal is to go out there and bring it to the next level and keep the market going…The past five or six years the closers’ market was so stagnant, it didn’t move at all. It’s up to us as closers to keep that market rising, rising, and rising and not have it be stagnant for another five or six years.” Freakin SPARE me…The only reason you care about what others are doing is to help out your bottom line. But I guess it’s good to know its all about the money for Paps–then no one will be surprised/dismayed/hurt when he bails, as soon as he is able, to the 1st team who offers him more money…which will probably be the Skanks when Rivera arm falls off…

But he did not do very well today–when has Jonathan Papelbon ever has an ERA of 9??? He threw 23 pitches (14 for strikes) while giving up 2 run, walking 1 and striking out 1…Is this your idea of taking it to “the next level”? Maybe you should concern yourself with your pitching, rather than whining about money…

Now what the HELL is going on with Direct TV? I wake up this morning, and think “I think I’ll have a little Red Sox baseball with my toast” and I turn on the TV and there is NUTHIN–except the message that its searching for a signal–So I freak out, thinking that there is something wrong with my Direct TV, but when my husband went downstairs and tried it down there (on another channel) all was well–I even rebooted the darn TiVo to see if that would help–and then I go to my computer and see that no one with Direct TV can get ESPN2 or NESN. So I am wondering, is this because of the MLB Extra innings package, that is not even starting until April 1, that they blacked us all out??? &*()&#@(*#()@*()#*@()*#

From what I hear, its an intermittent thing–and that its not just the channels we are concerned with–its a satellite issue–and DirectTV has graciously informed customers that if the problem remains for 24+ hours, they will credit our accounts–yeah, what will that be, like 30 cents???

Its official–Josh Beckett will start the season on the DL with back soreness, retroactive to March 19th, which means he is eligible to be activated on April 3rd, which is the day off between the Oakland and Toronto. Barring any unforeseen, I expect we will see Josh make his 1st start of the season next weekend…

Here is a question Manny was asked yesterday with regard to today’s game: “…was he nervous or excited to have Matsuzaka be the starter in front of his hometown crowd in the season opener for the Red Sox.” And Manny’s response? “Not really, why should I be excited? For me, it’s not that exciting…we saw him pitch like 30 games in Boston (last season). It will be the same. We saw him pitch so much and they televised all his games in Japan.” Good answer Manny; it was a dumb question….

Once again, Jordan’s Furniture in Mass will be giving away free furniture if the Sox will the World Series–but this year there is a catch–they need to do it in 4 games. After giving free furniture to over 24,000 customers last year (they had taken out insurance to cover them in case it happened) they expect even more people to take advantage of the potential to win free furniture. The promotion runs from today, to April 27th…

Thanks Teeni! I am no genius; however, I believe just about anything could be a big seller with the right campaign, slick advertising and a little capital. The good ideas don’t always sell because of those very reasons. Yes, this would cure Tish’s haunted TV;3h2#0&ha8a
