OK, I know, its just a Spring Training game, and that Josh Becket (or any of the other starters for that matter) will pitch no more than an inning or 3, and most of the starters will be gone by the 5th inning, to be replaced by young ‘uns we have never heard of–but it will be organized BASEBALL of some sort–so I’ll take it…
Is anything else feeling that this whole Bartolo Colon signing is a HUGE mistake? When I 1st heard about the signing, ya know what popped into my head? Eric Gagne…and the disaster that was his performance in 2007. I think Bartolo Colon is revolting, and horribly overweight, and completely ineffective as a pitcher anymore…and now there is talk about making him the 5th starter…UGH…And how bout this? He is 2nd in wins as a starting pitcher from 1998-2005. Some bits from Theo: “We’re going to withhold any kind of judgment until we get him in here and get him on a program. Like I said, this is a depth signing…We’ll see how healthy we stay and what our projections might be for Bartolo, how healthy the rest of our pitchers stay, before we decide anything. I think you can never have enough depth, but at the same time you want to reward the guys who are here and putting their best foot forward.”
Old Home week: Bruce Hurst has been named a Special Instructor for Player Development, working with minor league players a couple times a month. And he has some great cred: he is 6th in team strikeouts and 8th wins, during his tenure with the Sox from 1980 to 1988.
The list is out for inductees to the Red Sox Hall of Fame, who will be enshrined after the season on November 7th. The inductees are: players Mike Greenwell, Bill Lee, Frank Sullivan, Mo Vaughn, Wes Ferrell, and Everett Scott, scout George Digby and executive Edward Kenney, Sr.
So, Clay Buchholz wants Roger Clemens #21? But the Sox have not given that to anyone since the Mercenary left…I say, what the heck, give the kid the #…He is currently wearing 61…
Especially in light of the fact that Roger is in VERY BIG TROUBLE. Apparently a letter is being prepared by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, asking the Justice Department to investigate Roger…HA HA….
Because of their meeting with President George W. Bush, the Sox will only have a 1/2 day of workout tomorrow..
