    February 20, 2008:
    Happy Remainder of the Sox
    Players Reporting Day!

Posted by Christine E. at 11:21 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Now, the games can officially begin! David Ortiz was at camp yesterday, and spent some time in the best place for him–the batting cages…From the big man himself: “I feel good…Getting almost 100 percent…just keep doing my thing…We’ll see if we can win another World Series, that would be kind of fun.”

Still no word on a contract extension for Tito–I think they should just pay him as much as Joe Torre gets paid (which is way overpaid for how the Skanks have performed in the last few years… (HAHA)and give him 3-4 years…The man has helped the Sox win not one but TWO World Series in the last 4 years–what is the problem???

Well, if you were planning on trekking 1/2 way around the world to see the Sox open their 2008 campaign in Japan, you are SOL. The 2 games against Oakland have sold out…

How is this snarky remark from Tom Werner? “Well, the Yankees are going to have significantly more revenue next year so we just have to beat them with intelligence and smart decision-making…They’re always going to be competitive. With their resources, they are going to be dominant.” But keep in mind, Tom, they are also now owned by the waffle twins Hank and Hal Steinbrenner, who cannot make a decision and stick with it, to save their life…

Probably the BIGGEST deal that will go on during Spring Training is who will be patrolling center field on Opening Day…Frontrunner for Rookie of the Year, Jacoby Ellsbury, or sucking offensive black hole (no, not Julio Lugo) Coco Crisp. For me, the decision is easy–trade Coco for a bag of balls and keep Jacoby in Center…Cause, despite the party line from the Sox, and everyone else, these boys will NOT be able to coexist peacefully–not happening…

And this is pretty telling: As of last night, the only 3 who have not reported? Manny Ramirez, Julio Lugo and Coco Crisp. Now, Manny is not a surprise, and they all have today to arrive–but given that Lugo and Coco ended last season with more than a little SUCKAGE–you would think that they would be a bit more motivated…

8 days until the 1st Spring Training Game!

Christine, sorry I haven’t been around in a few days. Life just keeps getting busier. It was great to see Papi in camp, and even though they don’t HAVE to be there until today, it’s pretty odd Lugo hasn’t arrived yet.

I’ve got a theory on Tito. With his health issues, do you think he maybe just wants to take it one year at a time? Just a thought.

I still say Coco gets traded before camp breaks. The Sox need another starter, just in case, IMO.
