    And so it begins…

Everyone was so excited that Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz would be battling during Spring Training for the 5th starter position of a rotation that was helmed by elder statesman, Curt Schilling. People also questioned the wisdom of picking up Batsh*t Julian’s option for the 2008 Campaign. And some people even uttered the blasphemous: “We have more pitching than we need!”

    Uh oh….

Unfortunately, it looks like Curt will be taking a little less active role, and there will be no battle for the 5th spot–unless Julian Tavarez steps up as a 5th starter, as he did last year, and there is always Kyle Snyder, who just signed another contract with the Sox…

It came out yesterday that Curt Schilling has a partial tear in his right rotator cuff. It also came out that there might have been some disagreement between the Sox and Curt as to the best cause of actions. So much so that a 3rd doctor had to be called in to offer a deciding opinion. Apparently, Curt and Dr. Craig Morgan (who did Curt’s original surgery in 1995) thought that perhaps surgery would be the best option. The Sox, led by medical director Dr. Thomas Gill thought that rest and rehab were the path to follow. The 3rd physician, Mets Medical Director Dr.David Altcheck was of the same opinion as the Sox, that rest and rehab is the way to go…The rehab program will be similar to the one Pedro did after injuring his shoulder when he was with the Sox…

From Curt’s blog: “There have been disagreements these past few weeks in an effort to provide me with a solution that would allow me to pitch as much as possible during the 2008 season. At no time did I ever consider taking a course of action against the club’s wishes. In the end, regardless of who agreed with whom, I have chosen the club’s course of action and will vigorously pursue any and every option I can to be able to help this team to another World Series title in 2008.”

You can see the whole entry at 38 Pitches. THIS is the reason why its good that a player has his own blog…

    Curt’s prognosis: The All-Star Break–at the EARLIEST…

I was afraid of this…Holy Buckets! This really puts a kink in the armor…because there is NO guarantee he will even be able to pitch again, apparently, the pain is horrendous–and he cannot even do regular things (like open a door) without a ton of pain. So what would it be like to even try to pitch…

    I guess we wait…and hope…and see…

    Feel better Curt!
