    February 4, 2007:
    Flotsam and Jetsam…

Posted by Christine E. at 11:13 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox,Signings and Trades Comment (1)

In the midst of a plague at my house this weekend, but, as my husband is a NY Giants fan, last night’s win did wonders for his health…

I am not a football fan–I know you get 4 tries to go 10 yards, and if you are not close after the 3rd try, you should punt–that’s about the extent of my football knowledge. But I am glad the Giants won. I talked a couple of my friends who are Patriots fans, and I point-blank asked them: “How can this POSSIBLY be fun for you??” and they said while they are rooting for the Patriots, this is the type of situation that will be great to look back on 20 years from now, and tell your kids and grand-kids about seeing…But, that there really is no drama, and, if the Patriots were not playing, they would be rooting for the underdog…

And, forgive me, but every time Fox (can’t they get ANY other commentator BESIDES Joe Buck??) went to Tom Brady–you know what vibe I get? the same vibe I get when they go to Derek Jeter…maybe Tom used to be (and still is) a nice guy, but I am not getting that anymore–all I am getting is arrogance…

So I guess Eric Hinske is gone for good, as the Sox signed Sean Casey to a 1 year, $800K deal over the weekend…A 1st baseman by trade, he can spell Youkilis as well as fill in at 1st when Youkilis covers for Lowell over at 3rd base. His career numbers are .301 with a .366 OBP, with 130 homers and 718 RBI’s. He is also a left handed bat, which the Sox have been looking to add for quite a while…And apparently he is a great human being, which is always a good thing…

And how bout these apples? Not only is Manny now thrilled to be the with Sox, and has been working his butt off in Arizona over the winter, he intends on actually showing up for Spring Training ON-TIME: “I’ll be there on the 21st (of February)…Every year is the same…I look forward to ’08, ’09 and maybe move on…I want to be like Julio Franco and play until I’m 48…

If anyone has a couple of hours they want to burn, you can read all 18,000 words of the Roger Clemens Report at, you guessed it, www.rogerclemensreport.com…

What do Barry Bonds, Mike Piazza, Jeff Weaver, Trot Nixon, Kevin Mench, Corey Patterson, and Ryan Klesko have in common? NONE of them have been signed for the 2008 campaign. How bizarre is that?

Holy Buckets! 10 more days! Can you believe it???

      Hi Christine,

I was reading in the paper the other day about the quality of some of the players not signed. I’m guessing some are done while some may get a look in ST. Sad to thing the Trotter may be done.

Did you see the photos in the Herald showing Manny working out? Hope it means a monster year coming up.
