    January 30, 2008:
    No Johan for you!

Posted by Christine E. at 12:35 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

Some day I will stop writing “2007” for the year…

So Johan Santana will be a NY Met for the 2008 campaign and beyond–and I could not be happier. They are in desperate need of help, the Sox did not have to give up anyone valuable (nor take a multiMULTI million $ contract) and the Skanks dont get him either–which probably irks the crap out of them, because after the Sox, the Mets getting something the Skanks want, is probably a very close 2nd…

Now, the Mets has 72 hours to get a long-term deal done with Santana, who is apparently looking for $20 million+ a year for 5-7 years…The deadline is 5:00pm Friday afternoon…

I’m just glad that Jacoby Ellsbury and Jon Lester will be playing for the Sox (barring any unforeseen) for the 2008 season…

Unfortunately, that also means that Coco Crisp is still around for the time being–I really think they need to get something for him, as he has never developed as the player he was when he was with Cleveland.

I think Jacoby has more than a bit of a naiveté on the whole thing: “I’m sure Coco was doing the same thing, working hard and getting ready for Spring Training and the season. Whatever happens, whoever gets the starting nod, [the other guy] will be very respectful and just willing to help the team any way possible.” Yeah, sure Jacoby….maybe YOU will….But since Coco has went on record (through his agent) stating that being in a platoon situation is not acceptable to him, and his expectation is to start…It should be interesting….

After nearly 70 years of tradition, this years Hall of Fame game, played in Cooperstown, NY, will be the last. Citing “complexities of the major league schedule and ‘all its inherent challenges,'” The last game will be played on June 16th, and will be the Cubs vs the Padres….

In an interesting, although not super surprising, development. Mercenary Roger’s downfall may come at the hands of Andy Pettitte. Already he has corroborated some of Brian McNamee’s testimony to the Mitchell Report, where McNamee said he injected Pettitte with HGH. Now, McNamee’s lawyer feels that when Pettitte speaks to the House Committee, he will tell them that He and Clemens have discussed HGH in 2001-2002…

Another McNamee lawyer, Richard Emery, had this to say: “Pettitte is certainly going to tell the truth, and if he tells the truth, everything will be fine…There are a number of conversations where Pettitte and Brian talked about Clemens? use. I think there is everything to believe Pettitte is not a liar.”

Holy Buckets! Could this testimony blow the lid off the whole Roger Brouhaha? How cool would THAT be!

I’m with you; Coco has got to be moved before the season starts. I just don’t see any way they can keep both of them. And as long as Santana didn’t end up in pinstripes, it’s all right by me.

      Hope you are well,
