    January 29, 2008:
    Some Miscellaneous Stuff

Posted by Christine E. at 12:51 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

So the Sox have given up 2 minor league pitchers to the ChiSox for pitcher David Aardsma, a 1st round draft pick in 2003, he did well at the beginning of 2007 (1st 14 appearances: 2-0 with a 1.31 ERA), but then ended up with some pretty sucky numbers to end the season (Last 10 games: 0-1 with a 16.55 ERA). After those 24 appearances, he was demoted to Triple A, never to return…so….why did they sign this guy? Is it that they need a Rudy Seanez??? The addition of Aardsma makes 39 on the 40 man roster…

Still nuthin on the whole Johan Santana thing–enough is enough already–obviously no one is going to blink here, let the Mets have him–the Sox do not need him–or his $160 million+ salary….Would he be nice to have? Definitely. But I think the costs may be too high, in money and in players…

What did you expect him to say??? Roger Clemens actually did the right thing and did not show up at the Astros off-season workouts, which started yesterday. Let the focus be on who is important–the players. But his eldest son, Koby, who is a catching prospect for the organization, weighed in: “It kills me that this is happening to my dad…What he’s done for the game and what now is being turned back to him for what he’s done for the game is tough. It’s hard on me, but you can’t imagine how hard it is on my dad.” Did you really expect him to say anything to the contrary? It’s his DAD….Although if I were him, the whole name thing would kind aggravate…

So, the Skanks want to have Joba Chamberlain (who looks like a friend of mine, so it freaks me out every time I see him) start next year—apparently he was a started in college and the minors–but this is the same kid who had his very own “rules” where he could not pitch more than an inning, and then it could only be every other day?

After this weekend, the Sox have sold 2,343,204 tickets for tickets for the 2008 campaign–including my two! (yeah!!) This is almost a 3% increase compared to this time last year. Supposedly the delays were because of the anti-scalping measures put in place this year…I think that is crap–I did not notice anything different this year, except that you had to reselect your date once you cleared the waiting room. The entering the number, practically hidden behind a bunch of black lines (to prevent automation) was the same, as was everything else. I think they need to look to Ticketmaster or something–there has GOT to be a better way…

Hi Christine, I’m hoping the magic John Ferrell worked on Schill and Papelbon last year will carry over to Aardsma. 97 on the gun is pretty impressive.

I’m sure you know by now Santana is a Met, and while I’d loved to have him on the Sox, at least he’s not wearing Yankee pinstripes.

Glad to hear you’re going back to Fenway. I’m getting to go myself for the FIRST time in May for 3 games.

      I. Can’t. Wait.
