    Holy Buckets!

    Thursday, June 12, 2008, 7:05 pm Section 20, Row 16, Seats 1 & 2

Yep, those would be MY tickets to Mecca itself, Fenway Park–Whooo Hoo! After a 2 year hiatus, I will be returning to the greatest baseball field on earth….

And what time did I get these tickets? 8:15pm SUNDAY night–to be fair, I was pretty half hearted about it on Saturday–I would jump on intermittently and see if I could get in–but of course all I got was the infernal virtual waiting room…

So for the hell of it, I thought I would look around last night around 7:00pm or so and see what was what. And while I only waited in the Virtual Waiting Room for a few minutes this time, is there ANYTHING more annoying to a Red Sox fan trying to buy tickets than when you get to the place to buy tickets, you enter how many you want. And you click “Continue” and you see:

We’re sorry, we were unable to process your request due to high transaction volumes. Please try to submit your request again by clicking the CONTINUE button (23-23)

And so you click on “Continue” again, and you get the SAME… FREAKING…MESSAGE… over and OVER again…and you get so caught up in the clicking, you miss the “Your requested amount of ticket exceeds the tickets available for this date” so then you are clicking worthlessly for however long it takes for you to get back to THAT message, and then you have to start all over again…

And of course, the updates on sold out games and only single tickets left had not been updated since 8:00pm–the night before…and would it be so much to ask to remove the little “T” box for games where there are no more tickets???

And, yes, my tickets are an obstructed view…hopefully not a completely obstructed view…But, hey, I AM GOING TO FENWAY! Yeah!

So, the Sox have re-signed Kyle Snyder to a 1-year, $835,000 contract, (he originally asked for $1.025 million, and the Sox countered with $725,000…) Not quite meeting in the middle, but he also has some incentives (as small as they are: $5,000 (yes, 5 THOUSAND DOLLARS) if he makes it to 50 games, and $10,000 more if he gets to 60–wow, you are paying Sir Julio the Useless 9 MILLION this year–could not spare more than $15,000 in bonuses to Kyle???

So to keep Theo’s arbitration record hearing less, only one left is Kevin Youkilis, who is asking $3.7 million, and the Sox want to pay him $2.525 million…

18 THOUSAND words? Apparently that is how many Mercenary Roger and his Agent felt were needed to prove his case–that his career didn’t improve from drugs, but “…was due to his ability to adjust his style of pitching as he got older, incorporating his very effective split-finger fastball to offset the decrease in the speed of his regular fastball caused by aging…” The report also includes 38 charts…

    Ah huh…

We are at a little under 17 days to Pitchers and Catchers–and hey, did I mention? I am going to Fenway!!!
