    January 17, 2008: EarlyEARLY Morning Baseball…

Posted by Christine E. at 12:45 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Holy Buckets! This is going to be torture….The good news is that for Red Sox and Oakland Fans (Are there actually any Oakland Fans???) the 2008 campaign begins a week earlier. The bad news is that 1st pitch is 6:07 AM on March 25 and 26…and if you are an Oakland fan that translates into 3:07 AM…

Now, if you wanted to watch the exhibition games on March 22 and 23, being played at 12:07pm, Japan time, against the Hashin Tigers and the Yomiuri Giants, respectively, you can catch those on March 21 and 22 at 11:07pm, which is Boston time…

    Confused yet? Me too…

I wonder if MLB Extra Innings will be offering these games as part of the season package, or that their season will begin with everyone else’s on April 1…

It’s the middle of January, so its time fro Arbitration! About 110 Major League Players filed yesterday, including Red Sox players, Kevin Youkilis, Javier Lopez and Kyle Snyder…Next step is tomorrow, where salary figures from the players and the club are exchanged. Everyone then has until the hearings, which begin on February 1st and run through February 21, to come to some sort of an agreement, or the arbiters will decide. Since Theo has been GM, no Red Sox player has actually gotten to the hearing stage, with the Sox being bale to come to terms with the players prior to any arbitration…

Stats for the Filers: Youk, who won his 1st Gold Glove in his 1st year at 1st Base, batted .288 last year, with a on-base % of .390…

Kyle struck out 41 and walked 32 during the span of 54 innings, and 46 appearances in 2007

Javier struck out 26, and walked 18 in 40 innings, over 61 appearances…

Tonight is the old out annual Boston Baseball Writers dinner being held at the Westin Waterfront Hotel, for those of you lucky enough to have tickets. Hopefully there will be something interesting to talk about tomorrow….

4 weeks today for Pitchers and Catchers!
