    December 20, 2007:
    Throwing Roger Under the Bus…

Posted by Christine E. at 12:44 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

This should be a new Olympic sport. And Curt Schilling has served the 1st volley, basically saying in his blog that if Roger cannot get himself cleared of the steroid accusations, he should give up the 4 Cy Young awards he won while allegedly being in the drugs: “So as a fan my thought is that Roger will find a way in short order to organize a legal team to guarantee a retraction of the allegations made, a public apology is made, and his name is completely cleared…If he doesn’t do that then there aren’t many options as a fan for me other than to believe his career 192 wins and 3 Cy Young Awards he won prior to 1997 were the end. From that point on the numbers were attained through using [performance-enhancing drugs]. Just like I stated about Jose [Canseco], if that is the case with Roger, the 4 Cy Youngs should go to the rightful winners and the numbers should go away if he cannot refute the accusations.”

And THIS is coming from the man who pretty much idolized Clemens, and has given props to him for motivating him to be the pitcher he is today: “His ‘undressing’ of me and lecture were a major turning point…I’ve always respected his career accomplishments and regarded him as the greatest pitcher to ever play the game.”

Hey, The International Olympic Committee is still deciding what they are going to do with Marion Jones’ gold medals they took away from her for all the performance enhancement drugs she took since 2000. They will either leave the gold medal winner blank, or bump everyone up a slot, so the silver winner will win the gold, bronze to silver, etc…

If Roger was forced to give up the CY Young’s he won in 1997, 1998, 2001 and 2004, they would go to Randy Johnson, Pedro, Mark Mulder, and Randy Johnson.

Now, we all know that Roger will never give up his hardware, he won them…doesn’t matter how…and I don’t see him coming clean anytime soon either…

With regard to the other This Week In Baseball Awards the Red Sox did not win…they came in 2nd–in ALL of them:

Manager of the Year: Joe Torre (WHY????????) (25%) beat out Tito (24.3%)

Rookie of the Year: Colorado’s Troy Tulowitzki (27.6%) beat out Dustin Pedroia (26.3%)

Defense of the Year: Detroit’s Placido Polanco (25.8%) beat out Mike Lowell (24.2%)

Coming up today, at 8 weeks to Pitches and Catchers: Blooper/Play (Coco Crisp catch in Game 4 of WS/Jacoby’s catch in Game 7 of the ALCS)

      Hi Christine,

Tulo most likely beat Pedroia because of his big offensive numbers, but I’ll take The Munchkin over him. My personal feeling on the Steroid Era? We’ve had the report, they’ve got a testing system that works pretty good, and if they agree to use the HGH blood test, I’m good with it.

I’m with you on Torre: Why? Biggest payroll and he finishes 2nd and is knocked out of the first round. Again.

      Have a great pre-Christmas weekend.
