    December 19, 2007:
    More of the Same…

Posted by Christine E. at 12:36 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

4 for 7: So, we have Josh Beckett for Starting Pitcher, Jonathan Papelbon as Closer, Clay Buchholz for the 2007 Single-Game Performance of the Year and now Hideki Okajima wins the Setup Man of the Year Award. With a 2.22 ERA in 66 appearances during the 2007 campaign, Oki pitched 69 innings, giving up only 17 walks while striking out 69…His most memorable game was against the Skanks in April when Jonathan Papelbon was not available, and he came in to face the heart of the Skankee order and went RIGHT AFTER THEM, showing no fear, and getting the job done. He also struck out Barry Bonds in June to help his countryman Daisuke win a 1-0 nail biter…

What I want to know is how the HELL did Dustin Pedroia NOT win for Rookie of the Year???

    Still to come:

Dec 19: Defensive Player (Kevin Youkilis)

Dec 20: Blooper/Play (Coco Crisp catch in Game 4 of WS/Jacoby’s catch in Game 7 of the ALCS)

Dec 21: Moment/Postseason Moment (Red Sox win the World Series, natch…)

And the denials go on and on and on: Despite the fact that his best friend and life partner) Andy Pettitte pretty much confirmed his former trainer, Brian McNamee’s testimony for the Mitchell Report, despite the fact that he helped McNamee get a job with the Skanks, Roger is still denying he ever took any type of performance enhancing drugs: “I want to state clearly and without qualification: I did not take steroids, human growth hormone or any other banned substances at any time in my baseball career or, in fact, my entire life…Those substances represent a dangerous and destructive shortcut that no athlete should ever take…”I am disappointed that my 25 years in public life have apparently not earned me the benefit of the doubt, but I understand that Senator Michel’s report has raised many serious questions. I plan to publicly answer all of those questions at the appropriate time in the appropriate way. I only ask that in the meantime people not rush to judgment.”

Hey Mercenary: Your “25 years in public life” are pretty much THE reason you are not getting the befit of the doubt. Your freakish rage towards Mike Piazza in 2000, the complete turn around from overweight has-been to Super Star…the list goes on and on…

Also, every time a player named in the Mitchell Report comes forward to acknowledge they participated in the use of performance enhancing drugs, that also lends more and more legitimacy to the report. The latest is Brian Roberts, who has was mentioned in the report by Larry Bigbie who said that Roberts told him he tried them, admitted he used steroids in 2003: “In 2003, when I took one shot of steroids, I immediately realized that this was not what I stood for or anything that I wanted to continue doing…”

Notable from Pete Rose: (players who use steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs are )”making a mockery” of baseball. “I never thought anybody would make me look like an altar boy…”

Clemens has painted himself into a corner I don’t know that he’ll be able to get out of. And I hope he chokes on it.

Who beat out Pedie for ROY? I demand a recount.
