With 8 weeks (this Thursday) until Pitchers and Catchers, and 10 weeks (also this Thursday)until the 1st exhibition game, and with baseball closing down this Friday until after the 1st of the year, there in, unfortunately, very little to talk about.
Hopefully, I will be getting a TON of cool Red Sox stuff for Christmas, not only because its way cool, but then I can talk about it…How lame is that?
Still in holding pattern for Johan Santana–Dont need him, just want him…blah blah blah–but Dan Haren, previously of Oakland, has been traded to the Diamondbacks–so the only other decent starter out there is Eric Bedard of the Oreos–but Peter Angelous would rather cut off his nose to spite his face, believing that its better to get nothing than to trade him to a AL East contender, despite the fact the Sox have some great prospects the cookies do desperately need…
Repercussions abound: Despite his denials in the face of the steroid accusations revealed in last week’s Mitchell Report, it seems that there will be consequences: Roger Clemens, slated to speak on ” My Vigorous Workout, How I Played So Long” (oh! The irony!!) at the Texas HS Baseball Annual Convention, may be cancelled. From President of the Texas HS Baseball Coaches Association Jim Long: “We’re not going to slam Roger in any way, shape or form…But there’s a cloud over his situation and we have to address it…We’re 200 percent against steroids.” Texas, who has the roughest program in the US with regard to performance-enhancing drugs, began mandatory tests of high school athletes for steroids in September of this year. New Jersey and Florida are the only other two states who also do this type of testing on teenagers.
Like a bad penny: Javy Lopez (the catcher, not the pitcher) has decided to try and make a comeback, agreeing to a minor league contract with his original team, the Atlanta Braves…After being cut during spring training by the Rockies (HAHA) he did not play during the 2007 campaign. A 3-time All-Star, he will be most remember by Sox fans as the catcher who has a lousy work ethic (not to mention a crappy bat AND glove) on the injury laden team of 2006…He is a career .287 hitter with 260 home runs and 864 RBIs.
Can we get some Sox News–Soon?
