    December 13, 2007:
    Today is the day…

Posted by Christine E. at 1:56 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

That the infamous Mitchell Report comes out and will hopefully blow the lid off the steroid use in Major League Baseball–lets just hope that the Red Sox, past and present are few and far between on the list…

From Schill: “The hope, I think, for most people is that there will be some closure sometime soon and we move on…I would imagine there will be a lot of shock, a lot of surprise, but I think as a sport, as an industry we’re hopefully going to be held accountable for what’s happened, from players to coaches to front office to ownership…If this is what has to happen for us to move on, for the game to move on, for fans to buy back into the product, then that’s what has to happen.”

But the question that needs to be asked is: How do we all move on? Does Barry Bonds still get into the Hall of Fame if it is established he cheated to get there? How about Mark McGwire? Sammy Sosa? Rafael Palmeiro? Jason Giambi? What about the Home Run record?

To the other extreme, The International Olympic Committee has completely stripped Marian Jones of all the medals she has won since 2000, as well as banned her from participating in any manner from the 2008 Beijing Olympics and may even convert that into a lifetime ban…the worst part about that whole mess? She participated in several relays in which the team medaled–THEIR medals may be taken away as well…

So which way is the right way? I would tend to lean towards the IOC’s position–the athlete knew what he/she was doing when they chose to participate in illegal or unethical activity–why should they benefit in any way?

If Barry Bonds or anyone else cheated, his records should reflect that…Period…

So Miguel Tejada has bene traded to the Houston Astros for 5 players, including 3 pitchers–a little lopsided dont you think? I am glad he is now out of the AL East–He is a whiny hypocritical brat who made that huge stink and getting all self righteous about Derek Lowe and the “obscene gesture” in the 2003 ALDS, but then gets caught making a huge profanity laced tirade a couple of years later…

Despite the fact that Brendan Donnelly was not tendered a contract by the Sox at last night’s midnight deadline, both sides remain hopefully they will be able to come to some sort of agreement…

Congratulations to Theo and his wife, Marie, who became parents of baby Jack yesterday morning. Weighing in at 7 lbs, 14 oz and 20.5 inches in length, it is said that Jack and Mom are doing well…

      Christine,

Well, the truth about Roger came out, as well as Pettitte. No current Sox players except for Gagne and Donnelly, and I wonder, no matter what they say, is him being on the list one of the reasons Donnelly is the only one they didn’t offer a contract to?

      What a day.

      Hope you are well,

      Ted
