    December 10, 2007:
    This and That…

Posted by Christine E. at 12:33 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Its officially official, Mike Timlin will once again pitch for the Red Sox, signing a 1 year/ $3 million contract for the 2008 campaign. And how about this for refreshing: Mike doesn’t HAVE an agent–he does all of his negotiations HIMSELF…His 2007 record from 2-1 with a 3.42 ERA, he ranks 4th on the all-time list of postseason appearances with 44, and has career numbers of 71-69 with a 3.55 ERA while posting 140 saves, and appearing in 1,011 regular-season games…

Speaking of Agents: Apparently the tentacles of Scott Boras have already infected Jacoby Ellsbury, who apparently thinks it’s perfectly all right to charge $125-$150 to SIGN AN AUTOGRAPH… Over this weekend, Jacoby appeared at 2 signing events and the rules were that it would cost $125.00 to get a baseball or photograph (up to 16×20) signed; $150.00, for a signature on a baseball bat or jersey/shirt. And better yet, Jacoby couldn’t be bothered actually posing for pictures, but “you may be allowed” to take a picture while he is signing stuff…

W…T…F…??? The kid hasn’t even actually played in enough games to be even considered a rookie, but he is charging exorbitant fees for his signature? It’s unfortunate–I really liked this kid, but the more I hear, the less I like…

And my favorite “justification”? That he is only making the league minimum (about $400K) and will be for the next 4-5 years- Are you KIDDING me? Do you know how long it would take me to make $400K???? Pathetic…

Things that make you go whooo hoooo!!!: Eric Gagne DECLINED arbitration with the Sox, and looks like he will be signing a $10 million contract with the Brewers–They must be on CRACK to offer him that kind of money–But the Milwaukee Brewers can best be summed up by my husband who, when I told him about this deal said to me: “Milwaukee still has a team?” ‘Glad he is gone, don’t care where, ’nuff said…

Mark your Calendar: February 28th–the 1st Spring Training Games–a doubleheader against Boston College (1:05pm) and Northeastern (6:05pm)!

The Admiral of the Pirate Pen is back. That can only be considered as a good thing.

This Jacoby deal: I’m starting to think this was all a greedy promoter: at least thats what I’m telling myself.

Good luck, Eric. I’m glad you got a ring, and hopefully you flame out in May when the Brewers visit Boston.
