    November 28, 2007:
    One Month Ago Today…

Posted by Christine E. at 12:29 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

…On October 28, 2007, the Boston Red Sox won their 2nd World Championship in 4 years, sweeping the Colorado Rockies in 4 games, having the scores of 13-1, 2-1, 10-5 and 4-3…And while it was not as a spiritual and cathartic experience as the win in 2004, it has helped set the tone that the Red Sox are a team that is built to last–and perhaps the Sox will be seeing more World Series Victories in the near future…

One thing I want to say about that–and I know it won’t be even a remotely popular opinion, but its mine nonetheless–I don’t want the Sox to win the World Series every year…

Now, before you start yelling, let me explain. The reason the World Series victories MEAN something to the Sox is because they had to work hard to get them (and we had to wait 86 years for one) C’mon, be honest–was this one in 2007 as wonderful and fulfilling as the one most of us waited a lifetime for? Of course not! And if we went through a whole season just expecting to win, and then the Sox blew through the postseason and won again, how is that fun? Its not–and it would get very soulless and boring–very quickly. And then it’s a slipper slope to EXPECTING a win, and that not winning a World Series is considered a failure…and then how will we end up? UGH…

So, bottom line, not getting what we want (a World Series Championship) is a good thing–even if it hurts…

That being said–how would you like to see a Red Sox Starting Rotation like this: Josh Beckett, Curt Schilling, Tim Wakefield, Daisuke, Jon Lester, Clay Buchholtz and…Johan Santana? While the Twins would like to re-sign Santana, his price ($120-150 million over 5-6 years) may be too rich for their blood, plus the fact that he has be publicly unhappy with how the club is being run there days…

But what will it take to pry him from the Twins? Is Jacoby Ellsbury too much? Is Ellsbury AND Buchholtz too much? (Hell, I HOPE SO!) The Sox would like to be able to send Coco Crisp as part of any deal for Santana (which is, obviously, a much better option…) and save as many of their prospects as they can…The Mets and Skanks are also part of the talks…

Starting at noon today, folks can register for the opportunity to purchase single game tickets for 18 April/May games in 2008, as well as 4 game “Sox Pax”. You can register at redsox.com until Monday at noon. Selected from these online registrants will be the folks who can attend the December 8 “Christmas at Fenway” celebration, which is going to be much smaller this year, because of all the construction going on at Fenway Park…But folks will also be able to buy online and on the phone on the 8th…All the rest of the single game tickets will be available sometime in January or February….

Interested in Season tickets? Stand in line…there is a waiting list of almost 7,500 folks ahead of you…

Christine, I’ve never disagreed with you. I’m going to now: I most definately WANT them to win the World Series every year. I don’t EXPECT them to, but I want it. Everytime.

On the Santana front, I say anyone but Ellsbury is fair game. I don’t want to see both Bucholz and Lester, but one of the two would be OK. Santana is a proven stud, and if we could get him, WITH a contract extension already being agreed to as a must, this team is the front runner every year for the next 5-7 years.

      Hope all is well.

      Hey Ted:

You’re right–I amend my statement–I dont expect, but I do WANT them to win every year….:-)

I dont want to lose Bucholz–and while I love Jon Lester, I would be ok with a Lester/Coco for santana deal…

      Hope you are well!

      11 more weeks! UGH…
