    November 21, 2007:
    My New Away Jersey…

Posted by Christine E. at 12:45 pm in Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Ever since Skeezy Bastard (aka Johnny Damon) left the Sox, I have been without a jersey, as I didn’t want to get one, only to have that player bail or go to the Skanks or something, and then I would be left with a useless jersey (again). I never understood the whole “I’ll still wear someone’s jersey, even if they play with another team/retire/etc” The only time that is ok is if its like a vintage Jersey (Ted Williams, Yaz, Fisk, etc) or they are a member of the sacred 2004 team that didn’t sell out and go to the Skanks..

So, it looks like I will be the proud owner of a brand new #25 Jersey–Mike Lowell–it will be good for at least 3 years…so if anyone is looking for the perfect Christmas gift…

And its official, the “t’s” have be crossed and the “i’s” have been dotted–Mike Lowell is officially a member of the Boston Red Sox for the next 3 years, for a total of $37.5 million. From Mike: “We feel like we should be able to do it again, or at least make a good run…Hopefully guys can stay healthy and have the years they’re capable of having. We expect to make the playoffs and go very deep into the playoffs again. There shouldn’t be any reason why we wouldn’t.”

And in addition to his signing, it was announced yesterday that Mike Lowell will be awarded the Red Sox MVP honor–the Thomas A. Yawkey Award. The last 3rd baseman to win it )there has only been 3) was Wade Boggs in 1985

Since it seems that a good portion of the goals the Sox set up for the 2008 campaign have been met (how man could you have when your World Series Champions?) Can we look toward signing Tito to a contract extension? During his 4 year as manager, the team has won TWO World Series. I remember when they signed him in 2003, after the heartbreaking Grady Little Debacle–I remember saying to my friend Paul “Lets just hope he is better than Grady and doesn’t do too much damage” I would have to say I am very happy with the “damage” Terry Francona has done…

We’ve all heard it–HELL, we’ve all SANG it–and I actually had it played at my wedding! No, not Tessie, or Dirty Water, but “Sweet Caroline” (DUM DUM DUM). My parents were Neil Diamond fans when I was growing up, so I have always liked his music–and now we find out that the Caroline behind “Sweet Caroline” is in fact JFK’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy. He finally came clean about his inspiration when he sang her the song, via satellite, for her 50th birthday. From Neil: “It was a picture of a little girl dressed to the nines in her riding gear, next to her pony…It was such an innocent, wonderful picture, I immediately felt there was a song in there.”

So now, as we head into Turkey Day weekend, all the Sox need to complete their 2008 roster is some bench guys (Gabe Kapler? Bobby Kielty?) and some bullpen help (Will they re-song the ageless Mike Timlin? Stay the HELL away from Eric Gagne? Make a run at Johan Santana or Kerry Wood?) So it will probably be a pretty quiet off-season…but hopefully not too quiet…

Aren’t we about due to hear Manny asking to be traded–AGAIN?

I do accept as true with all the ideas you have presented for your post. They’re very convincing and can certainly work. Still, the posts are very brief for beginners. May just you please lengthen them a bit from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
