    November 20, 2007:
    Welcome Back, Mike Lowell!!!

Posted by Christine E. at 11:37 am in Baseball,Red Sox,Signings and Trades Comment (1)

    Whoooo Hooooo!

Mike Lowell has agreed to a 3 year, $37.5 million deal with the Boston Red Sox. Apparently, he was offered a 4 year deal somewhere else. (I think it might have been Philadelphia–UGH) But fortunately opted to stay with the Sox…Perhaps the deadline of yesterday also helped seal the deal…

And at least 1 teammate is happy, as Curt Schilling writes on his blog : “How cool is that? Leaving years and dollars on the table to come back here for three more years, good stuff. Pretty nice to think you are fans in a town that is now a desired destination for athletes across the major sports. Come a long way for sure…Congrats to Mike and I’ve already spoken with a few guys on the team and suffice to say we’re all ecstatic.”

Mike Lowell hit 21 homers and a team leading 120 RBI’s with a .324 batting average in the 2007 campaign–and .400 in the World Series victory against the Rockies, and claiming the World Series MVP Award…He made $9 million this year…

WHAT a most excellent Thanksgiving Present!

So now Lowell and Schilling are back in the fold–and the 2008 Red Sox are looking VERY good…

The big rumor around town is the possibility of Coco staying with the Sox, and being the 4th outfielder, behind Manny and JD and Jacoby Ellsbury–I would rather it be someone like Gabe Kapler (whop could quite possibly, at the very least, get an invite to Spring training) or Bobby Kielty or Eric Hinske) While Coco has amazing defense, having him and Sir Julio the Useless in the 8-9 holes become a big sucking gaping hole at the back of the lineup…

BTW, we here at Boston Red Thoughts do not acknowledge the 2007 AL MVP as voted because he is a cheating namby pamby pretty boy…with blue lips…and has NEVER played in a World Series…HA HA…

And Mariano Rivera blinked–apparently he is close to accepting the 3 year $45 million deal with the Skanks…after he said he wouldn’t because he wanted a 4th year…

Hey! Did you hear? We signed Mike Lowell–Yeah!!!

Christine, Lowell makes a pretty good Thanksgiving gift, huh? I read a little while back that the Sox want Kielty back: thought I’d much rather have Kapler. Sad to say, I think Hinske is going to leave. I’ll miss his maniacal grins on the bench.

NO WAY Rivera was getting that much cash from anyone else: the Yankees have always overpaid for past performances, and this time is no different. As much as they say otherwise, it would SHOCK me if Joba Chamberlain wasn’t the closer in a year.

Hope you are well, and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
