    November 15, 2007:
    FOURTH place for Tito?

Posted by Christine E. at 1:23 pm in Random Thoughts,Red Sox,Signings and Trades Comment (1)

While Eric Wedge winning Manager of the Year surprises no one (I have noticed none of the major awards has any kind of upsets this year–Fairly predictable…) Tito was FOURTH? Behind Joe Torre? The man who continues to blow out his bullpen year after year? The man who has to manage a bunch of superstars? You’re kidding, right?

Wedge got 19 of the 28 1st place votes, finishing with 116 points; Mike Scioscia got 4 1st place, 11 2nd place and 9 3rd place, for a total of 62 points. Torre actually got more 1st place votes (5) than Scioscia, but ended up 1 short with 61 votes. Tito ended up with 13 points, consisting of 0 1st place, 3 2nd place and 4 3rd place votes…From Tito: “I don’t think I woke up this morning and ran to see how I was being perceived…That’s not important to me. What’s important to me is to do our job correctly. When you do things like that, the other things take care of themselves. I don’t think there’s any room in this job for my ego to show through. It doesn’t work that way.” Bob Melvin of the Arizona Diamondback won the honor in the NL…

How about A-Fraud crawling back to the Skanks? Probably realizes that no one is going to give him the money his crazy-assed agent thinks he deserves….and I would not be the LEAST bit surprised if Boras is orchestrating the whole thing–although it must be KILLING him to not be able to part of the negotiations….But if this deal goes through, and bases on probably a 20% commission–he’ll get about 58 MILLION dollars. I think he can live through a bit of ego bruising for that…

So, you would think that if A-Fraud signs with the Skanks that they will stay away from Mike Lowell? Think again…their next nefarious plot is to try to get him to play FIRST BASE for them. Holy Buckets! Are they SERIOUS??? Hopefully, Mike will not be comfortable making the move to 1st and would not agree to whatever they are paying to make that happen…

But it appears that the Skanks are not the only team in the mix–news came out yesterday that not only the Skanks, but the Brave, Cardinal AND Angels have all put offers on the table for Lowell–to the tune of 4 years, and between $55 to 60 million, beating out the current Sox proposal of 3 years, $35 to $45 million…

How bout this for ironic? The Sox are going to play in Japan next year, and Daisuke will probably be in Boston–as his wife is expecting their 2nd child around the time of the trip…and in a quirky development: While the 2 games the Sox and Oakland will play are part of the 2008 campaign, the teams will then return to the States to complete their Spring Training, before the season opens here on April 1st, in Oakland, where they will finish the 4 games series begun in Japan. And, the games in Japan are considered home games for Oakland…

More than 4 months to Opening Day? Oooooh Boy….

    FOURTH place for Tito?”

Christine, the fact Tito got NO first place votes is a joke. I didn’t think he deserved to win, but NO first place votes? Unreal.

I hate the offseason: Arod, Bonds getting indicted, worrying about where Lowell will end up. It just gets old: I want some games to talk about.
