    November 12, 2007:
Deadline to exclusively negotiate with Free Agents…

Posted by Christine E. at 12:25 pm in Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Which means, at midnight tonight, Mike Lowell can be approached by and negotiate with any other team in MLB… But there is an offer on the table from the Sox–3 years, $35 to $45 million…the sides took a break over the weekend, so perhaps today we will have some word…

But I read something over the weekend that concerned me a great deal–the question was asked, “If the Sox cannot sign Mike Lowell, should they sign A-Rod?” And 48% of the folks who responded said “Yes” (41 said “No” and 11% said “I don’t know” )W…T…F…??? Why Why WHY do some people want A-Fraud to play for the Sox? I don’t think I need to go into a massive LIST of reason why…again…CRAP…

Looking over Curt Schilling’s contract: How weird is it that he gets $1 million if he even gets ONE 1st, 2nd or 3rd place vote for Cy Young, but only $500K if he wins the whole kit and caboodle? Overall, it seems like a contract that benefits both the Sox and Schill–and will allow him to retire as a member of the Red Sox…

Silver Slugger, times 4: No surprise to anyone, Big Papi, despite his knee and shoulder woes, snapped up his 4th Silver Slugger award this weekend. While his homer run and RBI count were less than season’s past, Big Papi was very satisfied how the 2007 campaign turned out: “I would say, personally, this is one of my best offensive years here in Boston, all the way around…I think you look at my numbers this year … I put it together more than some of the other seasons when people think I had a good season.”

As if we need another reason why Dustin Pedroia should be named Rookie of the Year today: Apparently, he has playing injured for the last 2 months–a cracked hamate bone in his left hand…He is not even sure WHEN the injury occurred–the Sox medical team found it during a MRI and bone scan on September 10th. From the munchkin: “Some days, I would wake up, and it would be hard to grip a bat…I changed my grip a little bit on the bat and went from there. It was just one of those things, you know, you have to take care of after the season, but you have to play through. A lot of guys have done that.” The hamate bone, the wedge-shaped bone on the far side of the wrist, is a common injury for hitters…Dustin had this bone removed (it actually crumbled when they were taking it out…) last Tuesday…he is expected to completely recover and be ready for Spring Training…

I hear that the Skanks are looking to offer both Posada and Rivera 3 years/ $40 million–but Posada wants a 4th year…does he really think he will be as effective (relatively speaking) as he is when he is 40? And Mariano is getting more and more hittable…not only for the Sox, but for other teams as well (remember how the Oreos beat him to help the Sox clinch the division???)

1:00pm today comes the announcement of Rookie of the Year: Will it be Dustin Pedroia???

    1. Ted D says:

Christine, first off: Arod. DO NOT WANT HIM ANYWHERE NEAR THIS TEAM. Period. I don’t care how good he is: my view? We’ve won 2 championships in 4 years. Why do we need him?

Love the Schilling deal, and I’m planning on staying up until midnight to see this Lowell deal through. I still have hope it gets done.

Big props to the Large Father and the Munchkin: they both deserved the awards.

And who knew Pedie was made of nails and duct tape?
