    Red Sox 13, Rockies 1:
    Off to a Great Start…

Posted by Christine E. at 10:55 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

Wow…now THIS was a fun game to watch–if you were a Red Sox fan…

It had Dustin “The Midget” Pedroia making World Series history as the 1st rookie (and 2nd player) in history to lead off the World Series with a homer…

It has the Sox continuing there stellar offense that has seen the Sox outscored their opponents in the last 4 games 43-6…

It had a 5th inning that left a Colorado reliever with a 94.50 World Series ERA, 3 runs walked in while the bases were loaded–and 7 runs plated by the time it was over…

So why exactly did Josh Beckett need to pitch 7 innings in a blowout? The Sox had a 7-run 5th inning, with a 12 run lead over all–but Josh still came out, as it continued to rain heavily, and pitch 2 more innings, until he was relieved by Mike Timlim…

Despite the crappy weather his line was: 7 brilliant innings, giving up only the1 run in the 1st inning, with 6 hits, 1 walk and 9 strikeouts–four of those strikeouts on the 1st 4 batters he faced. Now he has a 4-0 Red Sox Postseason record–with a .120 ERA…

Despite the excellent start, I have been watching baseball long enough to know that what happened last night has little or no bearing on what can happen tonight–hell, the Sox could lose 1-0 tonight….The thing to do is take each day as it comes, celebrate the victories, and hope there are 3 more of them–and hopefully the Sox can win the World Series at Fenway–cause that would be the best..especially since I hasn’t happened in almost 100 years…

Official: Barring any weather or other such problems, Jon Lester will cap off his comeback season with a World Series start, in Game 4 on Sunday night in Colorado. From Tito: “We fully intend for Lester to pitch Game 4…But again, there could be weather, there could be things that happen during games that change things. So that’s the only reason I said that yesterday. We fully intend for Jon to pitch. He threw four innings (simulated game), and unless something crazy happens, he will pitch.” Jon Lester was 4-0 in his regular season starts…

Both Mark Loretta and Dave Roberts have been evacuated from their homes, because of the devastating fires in Southern California. Dave Roberts had been asked to throw out a 1st pitch in the postseason, as his 2004 compadres, Bill Mueller and Kevin Millar have. It’s unclear whether or not he will make it…

Tonight: Game #2: Curt Schilling, making his 2nd World Series start in a Red Sox uniform, (his 6th overall,) will take his .211 World Series ERA to the mound at the Fens tonight against Colorado starter Ubaldo Jimenez. 1st pitch 8:23pm

A 94.50 ERA is just plain funny.

I agree with you, just because they were awesome last night doesn’t mean a thing for tonight. But I’m still going to hope Colorado is as lazy and…well, bad, as they were last night. That game was way too much fun.

Christine, it was just the way I imagined it in my head. Except for the 1 run by the Rockies.

      Do better next time, Beckett!
