    October 24, 2007:
    World Series Game 1…Tonight!

Posted by Christine E. at 11:36 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

    I am heartbroken…

Tim Wakefield, the quintessential team player, the man who epitomizes the “Name on the front is more important than the name on the back” and one of my favorite players ever–is not on the World Series Roster due to his shoulder woes. Jon Lester will get his start in Game 4–and Kyle Snyder gets his roster spot.

From Wake: “Could I pitch Game 2? Probably. But are you going to get 100 percent out of Tim Wakefield? I don’t know that either, until Tuesday…I just don’t think it’s fair to the other 24 guys on this team that I go out there and maybe I pitch well and maybe I don’t, and then I’m not available for the rest of the series. It’s not fair for the rest of the 24 guys in that clubhouse for me to put them through that.”

Fortunately, it appears that Wake’s injury is alot of inflammation in back shoulder area–no structural damage, as indicated in the MRI he has back in September. But if he continues to throw with all the swelling, he could cause series damage–Hopefully, some rest and treatment will help, and he will be back with the team and pitching like he can for Spring Training…I really hope that we have not seen Tim Wakefield pitch his last game..forever

Not sure why the Sox decided to go with Snyder over Tavarez–and can anyone tell me WHY on EARTH Eric Gagne is still on the roster? Huh? That is CRAP–he no way in hell deserves to be on the roster–and Julian Tavarez left off–He has proved time and time again during his brief stay in Boston that he cannot be trusted with the ball in big moments. Thankfully, his contract expires this year–and I reallyREALLY hope the Sox dont do something crazy like sign him to an extension…

Thankfully, Jacoby Ellsbury is getting the start in center tonight–the party line is that Coco’s knee is bothering him after he banged into the wall making that spectacular catch to end game 7 of the ALCS–don’t care what the reason, its all good–now, if we can get Lugo out and Cora in, we’ll be in VERY good shape…

Tonight: After Yaz throws out the first pitch tonight, Josh Becket takes the mound against Colorado’s Jeff Francis. 1st pitch: 8:35pm.

    Go Sox!
