    October 11, 2007:
One More Day Until the ALCS

Posted by Christine E. at 11:36 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

But the NLCS begins tonight–With Colorado and Arizona battling it out in the desert. Game time is 8:36pm…

I have to tell you, I am really excited about this ALCS. Not only because the Red Sox are playing, but because these are two very evenly matched teams, who both play very good baseball. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out…Fortunately, my schedule is clear for tomorrow night’s festivities, so I can plunk myself on the couch and watch every minute…

And it’s looking more and more like the Sox have their 4th starter…Tim Wakefield threw 5 simulated innings on Tuesday, throwing 77 pitches. And the best part is he felt fine the next day. From Tito: “Yesterday after he threw, he gave me the thumbs-up when he was done…He knew it was an important day and treated it as such. I think we were pretty pleased with the way the ball was coming out of his hand.” Wake will start game 4 in Cleveland on Tuesday…

Wonky Stats: Who do you think has the highest average of any Red Sox Player in the LCS (AL or NL…) No, it’s not Julio Lugo…But your close: Its J.D. Drew, with a .360 average in 10 games. Who has the most homers in LCS play? Manny, with 8–He has also played in the most games, at 32. And the leader in RBI’s? Big Papi…

Wonky Stats–Pitching Version: Mike Timlin leads the pitching staff with 20 games in LCS play, and the lowest ERA (2.66) Tim Wakefield leads the Sox in wins with a record of 5-1, and Curt Schilling leads starters with an ERA of 2.83…

So Detroit has picked up Ivan (There is only 1 Pudge–and he ain’t it…) Rodriguez’s $13 million option for the 2008 season, which means that now the sharks are trying to stir stuff up by asking when the Sox will be picking up Jason Varitek’s option. While I think Jason Varitek is one of the best catchers there is, his current contract does not expire until the END of the 2008 campaign; .Rodriguez’s expired, like NOW….There is PLENTY of time to address ‘Tek’s contract status–plus the fact, the Sox have other things to do–like win a World Series….

And I really think it will be a Red Sox/Colorado Rockies World Series. After that, its anybody’s game–But Colorado is VERY hot right now….Did anyone ever see this coming? Me neither…

As I said yesterday, Red Sox Nation has been very active, doing a ton of different things–and Chip from Narragansett Pictures is no different. They released a website back in April called “The Red-Sake Show” And it’s a RIOT. Bases on the theory that “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, aw shucks” The Red Sake Show is an alternate universe that parodies the Sox, giving a whole new meaning to “Inside Baseball”… Set in a video comic strip format, (think YouTube)folks can listen to (and see) such Red Sake players as “Don’t Worry, Be-Papi”, “Beaver Pedroia”, “Jonathan Papelbuns” (complete with Bud Light Box and southern accent), and “Tom Werner-Capote”… Just the thing to do while we wait for the Sox to begin playing tomorrow night…

Speaking of tomorrow night: 7:10pm, the battle of the Aces: Josh Beckett vs CC Sabathia–Game 1 of the 2007 ALCS. Go Sox!
