    Kicking off the Post Season:
    Let the Games Begin!

Posted by Christine E. at 10:19 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

I knew there would be some kind of shock when the postseason roster was announced–there always is–but NEVER in a million years did I think it would be that Tim Wakefield’s back is all boogered up, and to rest him, he is being left off the ALDS roster…I though his back issues has pretty much resolved themselves, as he seemed to be getting his grove back, pitching well in his last start of the season on Saturday night, to help clinch the best record in baseball… but apparently, he needed a cortisone shot after that game, which will hopefully calm his back down enough that he can continue to be effective throughout the post season.

From Tito on Wake: “In his role with us now, if something unfortunate ever happened to a starter, Wake would be asked to come in and fill something like that in the game,” said Francona. “And he’s not ready to do that. He’s been fighting it for a long time and it’s not fair to Wake…Because of our feelings for Wake — some of the loyalty, some of the respect that’s there — we wanted to give him a chance to pitch on our roster, in this series…It wasn’t fair to him and it was putting the team in a very difficult spot, which he understood. I’ve got to tell you, we intended to have Wake on this roster.” Jon Lester gets Wake’s roster spot and will pitch out of the pen in long relief.

In another surprising move, the Sox have decided to go with 3 catchers, so Kevin Cash gets a spot as a bench reserve, joining Doug Mirabelli, Eric Hinske, Bobby Kielty, Jacoby Ellsbury and Alex Cora…

After tonight’s game: Daisuke gets the ball against Kelvim Escobar on Friday night (Friendly Fenway, Less rest, not necessarily a bad thing…) Then Curt Schilling toes the mound in Anaheim on Sunday against Jered Weaver….

Tonight: Baseball begins again, when Josh Beckett faces John Lackey, beginning at 6:37pm….Let’s get it started…

How about those Sox Christine? 4-0 and Beckett throws a complete game shutout. Not a bad way to start the playoffs!

Now, Daisuke is the Daisuke of last Friday night, and all will be well.
