    Red Sox 5, Oreos 11:
Not the way I wanted to end my honeymoon…

Posted by Christine E. at 11:18 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Can I just tell you how weird it is that I leave for vacation and the Sox are playing the Oreos, and I come back, 8 days later, and they are playing…The Oreos…

So, I am out of the country for 7 days (Bermuda was amazing!) and am only able top get Red Sox Scores by the following:

    1. Going on-line, which, on a cruise ship, is slower than dial-up and costs 50 cents a minute…

    2. Finding a fellow Red Sox fan on board and asking the score.

    3. Reading the Box Scores on the New York Times Digest available on the ship every day

    4. ESPN International–which does not give a rats ass about baseball–so consequently, I got the box scores (in Italian no less) ONCE the whole week I was gone…

Fortunately, the Sox ended up a 1/2 game better than when I left–only to squander it away in last night’s horrible awful game from beginning to end–cannot even blame Lugo and his 18th error–it was over after the grand slam by Scott Moore (Anyone know who he is? Me either) and then, Daisuke was out of the game after 2 2/3, and his line went like this: 72 pitches, 6 hits, 8 runs (including a solo homer and the grand slam by what’s his face) while walking 3 and striking out 2…

I know I keep saying 15-16 wins will be a victory for Daisuke, but the 9.57 ERA in his last 5 starts (and the 4 out of 5 losses..) is cause for a good amount of concern…

Some neat things I missed while on vacation:

Clay Buchholtz and his no hitter! Holy Buckets! 1st thought I had was: Why do I always miss these type of games?

Props to Youk for his 180 errorless games at 1st base–How obvious is it that he should win the Gold Glove at 1st? But if the voters can give a Gold Glove to Jeter over A-Gon last year, my hopes are not high for Youk…He is on pace to break Steve Garvey’s all-time record of 193 errorless games at first, which he had from June 26, 1983-April 14, 1985.

Jon Lester kicking some butt and shutting out the O’s for 7 strong on Friday nigh. Throwing 99 pitches (63 for strikes) gave up 0 runs on 4 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4…

Coming up: The final game of the 4 game series–and of the 18-game season series, which the Sox currently lead with 11 wins… Josh Beckett goes for win #18 which would lead all of baseball, opposing Oreo pitcher Jeremy Guthrie. 1st pitch is 1:35pm.
