The Battle of the Red and White Sox
    Part 1: Rained out…

Posted by Christine E. at 11:31 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

So after waiting for 2.5 hours for this game begin, the Sox (both sets) decided to go with a day/night doubleheader starting at 2:05pm today. But even that has the potential to be rained out, so it could get very interesting in the windy city this weekend…

In a pretty shocking move (at least to me) John Lester was sent down to AA Portland and Javier Lopez was called up from Pawtucket in his place. Julian Tavarez will take his place in the rotation until he comes back when the rosters expand September 1. The move was made to allow the Sox to have an extra left handed reliever in the bullpen, as they face alot of good left handed hitters on the White Sox and Skankee rosters. Lester will only miss 1 start with the Sox, and is online for his start against the Oreos on September 2nd…Why Portland instead of Pawtucket? Clay Buchholtz is slated to start for Pawtucket on Sunday, and they didn’t want to mess with his turn in the rotation, nor did they want to mess with Lester’s…

I thought EBay had rules against this?: There were 18 bids for David Ortiz’s car–the 2005 Mercedes Benz SL-Class SL65 AMG he bought himself as a celebratory present for the Sox winning the world series. One of the bids was $525,000. And NONE of the bids were valid…every time I bid on something I EBay, you have to agree to a legally binding something or other for whatever you are buying…WHY on earth would you big a 1/2 million dollars when there is no way you can afford it???

Doug Mirabelli, who is on the DL with a strain in his right calf is doing very well…Looks like he will be ready when he time is up on September 2. Here’s a weird thought. If Kevin Cash continues to do well with Wake while Doug is down, will that impact things for next year? hmmmmm….

August 31–Judgment Day: This is the day that if a player is on the 25 man roster, he is eligible to play in the postseason. The Sox have some flexibility (2 spots) because Matt Clement and Brendan Donnelly are on the DL…So it will be interesting to see who comes and goes within the next week or so..and who from Pawtucket (Buchholtz, Ellsbury, et all) could end up eligible….

Today: Josh Beckett will make his start this afternoon, going for his 16th win, which would tie him for his record with the Sox his 1st year…1st pitch is 2:05pm White Sox Ace Jon Garland, who was originally slated to pitch against Curt Schilling tonight, gets the nod in the opener.

Tonight: Curt Schilling will oppose White Sox John Danks in game 2, 1st pitch thrown at 8:11pm.

    1. Ted D says:

Christine, they broke out the whooping sticks today huh? 11-3 with Schilling going tonight. I’m hoping for a 4 game sweep this weekend.

As for the post season roster, I’d like to see Jacoby on the roster, if only to see what it’s like.

Have yourself a great weekend, OK?
