    Red Sox 1, Angels 3:
I Guess a split will have to do…

Posted by Christine E. at 11:38 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Although it should have absolutely been at least 3 out of 4–if not a complete sweep. But, thanks again to the machinations of Eric Gagne and Julio Lugo (aka Julio the Useless), the Sox lost the nightcap of the doubleheader on Friday…

Buy Clay Buchholtz did very well on Friday, getting his 1st major league win while the Sox lit up John Lackey…

And then Doug Mirabelli gets hurt in the 6-run 1st inning running the bases and poof! He is on the DL with a calf strain, and the Sox need to fly in a catcher from Pawtucket (who were playing in Canada at the time) So Kevin Cash joins the Sox as their backup catcher while Doug mends. Fortunately, he has experience catching knuckleballs, having worked with Pawtucket pitchers Charlie Zink and John Barnes. He will get the start with Wake in tonight’s game….

And yesterdays game is the all too familiar riff from the 2007 season: The starter (in this case Julian Tavarez) pitched more than well enough to get the win, going 6 innings, and giving up 2 hits and 2 runs, while walking 2, striking out 2, and hitting 1….

And I have NO idea what the frick was going on when Gagne pitched–he comes out, the gets booed, but because he didn’t implode and SUCK this time (he struck out two and gave up 2 singles, but no runs) he gets a standing O when he leaves the field..Are you KIDDING me? 1st of all, it wasn’t even a clean inning, Secondly, his performance since he has been with the Sox in NOW WAY warrants an ovation–what has he had, 1 clean inning since he has been here? and at least 3 games were lost as a result of his meltdowns on the mound–one just two days previous. The Sox get rid of Joel Pineiro and pick up Gagne–and right now there does not seem to be much of a difference, except for the fact that Tito will continue to throw him out there, despite the fact that he not effective AT ALL right now…

So now there is 4 games the separate the Sox and the Skanks–again–and 10 road games–3 of which are with the Skanks…oh boy…..

Tonight: Tim Wakefield (and new batterymate Kevin Cash) get the start in Florida against Tampa Bay. Ace Scott Kazmir will throw 1st pitch for the Devil Rays at 7:10pm

    1. Ted D says:

Hi Christine. Well, we didn’t make up any ground, but I have to believe the Yankees will STOP winning all the time.

I think I may go light a candle for poor Kevin Cash! Papi is taking the night off as well with Kazmir pitching. Should be a good matchup at the Trop.

      Hope you are well,
