Welcome to Red Sox Nation, Clay Buchholtz!

Posted by Christine E. at 11:24 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (4)

164 strikeouts in 117 innings, 8-3 with a 2.15 ERA in 21 starts, 23 years old, compensation pick for Pedro Martinez signing with the Mets….From his former coach in the minors, Portland’s Mike Cather: “You’re talking about a guy that’s got a plus major league fastball, an average to plus major league two-seam, a plus changeup, plus curveball, plus slider…He has the whole package.”

A reason to TiVo a game if I ever saw one…and I NEVER TiVo games. My feeling on it is that its like a play that I was in or directed-It’s a moment in time and watching it after the fact is just weird for me….But I want to see this kid pitch, and since I will be at work when that happens…It will be TiVo time for me….

And when Clay is finished with his start, he will go straight back to Pawtucket, do no pass go, do not collect $200.00 but Jacoby Ellsbury (as every female under the age of 25 in Red Sox Nation goes nuts) will take his place for the night game…But its doubtful he will last long. Bobby Kielty is already almost 2 weeks into his stint at Pawtucket-and he has the option to bail after week 1…

Bon Voyage Wily Mo: And in the midst of all the comings and goings of the young’ uns, the fact remains–someone has to go to make room for them–and the most obvious choice is Wily Mo, who has cleared waivers, so he can be traded (there has been rumblings a trade is in the works) or designated for assignment, which means that his time with the Sox is more than likely over. He’ll probably go somewhere and be a superstar–I really hope that is the case for him–he is a nice guy, good citizen, wanted to do well, he just want not a good fit for what the Sox needed…

What the HELL was he thinking??? I have never been a huge Jose Offerman fan, thinking, as alot of people do I suppose, that the Sox paid far too much for far too little talent, but even his behavior during a recently Atlantic League game, where he tried to knock Bridgeport Bluefish pitcher Matt Beech’s block off with a bat after being hit in the leg, is a bit extreme. He is facing assault charges and the league is calling for a lifetime ban for Mr.Offerman…And guess who his teammate is? Red Sox Nation’s favorite malcontent, Carl Everett, who was not involved with the melee…

Coming up: Clay Buchholtz makes his major league debut when he throws the 1st pitch as part of the day-night doubleheader today. Erwin Santana gets the start for the Angels…1st pitch 1:05pm. Then it’s the battle of the 15-game winners, Josh Beckett and John Lackey for the nighttime contest. 1st pitch 7:05pm

Offerman is CRAZY. Even Carl Everett would agree.

What a kick to the netherregions last night was.

Gagne is just LOST right now, and I don’t see Tito letting him work it out in a close game again: I hope.

      Have a great weekend,

      Ted

I miss Wily Mo already. I think he is going to be really good and they’ll regret the move, but I guess that’s what they need to do at the moment. At least he’s in the National League though!
