Red Sox 5, Tampa Bay 6:
    The Reverse Lock strikes again!

Posted by Christine E. at 11:29 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

I had a feeling this would happen…When I looked at the records of the starters: Daisuke with a 13-8 and Andy Sonnanstine with a 1-8 record, I said to myself “I really hope the reverse lock doesn’t come into play here..” Guess what–its DID…

What IS IT about the Red Sox and rookie pitchers? I saw somewhere yesterday that someone wrote if a team wants to beat the Sox, just bring in a rookie pitcher, and its all over…

But Daisuke didn’t help, with his pretty crappy line: He went 6 innings, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits while striking out 5, and walking 3. Which is a HUGE change from the dominant pitcher he has been of late: 2.53 ERA since the All Star Break–the lowest in the AL…From Daisuke: “Having won in such a great fashion (Tuesday night), I’m very disappointed and even sorry that I put a stop to our momentum today…”

What makes this most frustrating is the fact that the Sox came back in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings to bring it to 1 behind–and in the 9th Lugo was on on second base with no outs, and the Sox could not get it done, as Pedroia, Youkilis, and Manny struck out to end the game…The Sox could have had a SIX game lead on the Skanks (and a 37 magic #) , who came back to tie their game, 3-3 in the 9th, but then Mariano Rivera blew it in the 10th and gave up 3 runs….so they lost, which keeps the lead at 5 games…(and a 38 magic #)

And now the Sox face the Angels for 4…and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t WAY worried about this…they out played the Sox last week–big-time…The Sox need to win at least 2 of the games (3 or 4 would be preferable…) Big-time…

Coming up: After today’s off day, (off days suck even WORSE when they come after a day game…2 games in 1 day! Josh Beckett will go for win #16 in the 1st game of the day-night doubleheader against the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim, Scranton, Kansas City, USA…1st pitch is 1:05pm The less than stellar Ervin Santana (5-11, 6.22) takes the mound for the Angels. Red Sox starter for the 2nd game at 7:05 pm is still TBA, although most of the nation hopes its Clay Bucholtz making him major league debut. Whomever will be opposed by 15 game winning John Lackey…They should have had Becket against Lackey–2 15-game winners going head to head would have been cool…

Christine, big difference is, last time was out West: this time, it’s in Fenway. Excited to see how Clay looks tomorrow, Beckett is the man, and Manny is on fire since the All Star break.

Tough loss yesterday, but the Yankees are losing tonight, so that should count for something!

      Hope you are well,

      Ted
