Red Sox 2, Tampa Bay 1:
    It’s about Freakin’ Time…

Posted by Christine E. at 11:22 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Red Sox Nation has been been waiting for months (since Mother’s Day!) for a walk off, clutch win, and it could not have come at a better time. Not only did the Sox win on the night that Jon Lester made his triumphant return to the Fens, but they did it on a night that the Skanks got annihilated by the Oreos in a 12-0 smash down, which brings the AL East Lead up to 5 games, and lowers the Magic Number to 39…

Speaking of triumphant, how ’bout Lester’s brilliant line: 97 pitches over 7 innings of work giving up 1 run on 2 hits while walking 1 and striking out 4–the only downside is that he did not get the win for his efforts–Eric Gagne, in truly impressive fashion struck out the side in the 9th to get the win…While grateful that he did not blow a third game in a week, I am still reserving judgment…

And everyone who feels that Mike Lowell…is…a…god… Please raise your hands….Saved the Sox bacon–big-time last night with his mammoth homer in the 9th to tie it, which then allowed Jason Varitek to hit his ground rule double, and then Coco to get his game winning single to win the game…

Tina Cervasio interviewed ‘Tek last night after the game–Yes, he is the Captain, but don’t you think she would have went to the man who had the walk-off? I am thinking Coco politely declined–as he has in the past…

Hopefully this will be the start of something good…in stark contrast to last years exceptional 9 walk off wins, last nights was only the SECOND of the year. The Sox are now 2-41(!) when losing in the 8th inning….

Brendan Donnelly has his Tommy John Surgery yesterday, and came through it with flying colors…From Tito: “His text said he came through it great and he’s just going to go rest…He was just a little groggy, but he sent a real quick message saying, ‘I made it.’ He’s OK, which I really appreciated a lot.” Recovery and rehab for this type of surgery is 12-18 months…

Remember when Curt Schilling has that interview with Bob Costas on HBO and basically said that since Barry Bonds hasn’t sued anyone over the allegations of his steroid use, that its pretty much an admission of guilt? Well, hold onto your legal briefs, Barry Bonds has been talking to some lawyers to look into whether or not he has a case…Chances are, he probably does not. Classic from Berkley Law professor emeritus Stephen Barnett: “It’s not likely to have any legal weight. For one thing, the statement has to be false. And since Bonds is a public figure, that statement would have to be knowingly or recklessly false.” Another thought is that if he did take it to trial, his whole life would be on VERY public display–probably not something he wants….I think its just a way to send a message to Curt and anyone else to shut up about it….

Today: Daisuke takes the mound at 1:05pm this afternoon (what is UP with this day game thing???) to finish up the 3-game series–and hopefully get the sweep…The satan fish call on Andy Sonnanstine for the start…

Christine, last night was one of those games where you smile all day long the next day: well, except when the game starts at 1 and Daisuke blows up. Tough loss today, but hearing the comeback I had visions of last night in my head.

Lester was great, and I think Angie has forgiven me for waking up the baby when Coco got the hit! 🙂

      Hope you are well,
