    Red Sox 9, Mariners 2:
Finally winning a series at Safeco!

Posted by Christine E. at 10:14 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Holy Buckets! After losing 9 (yes, NINE) games at Safeco Field dating back to last year, the Sox manage to take 2 of 3 to win this series…which is a great thing for many reasons:

The Skanks are winning again (last 6 out of 7), and the 10 games lead is now back to 7…

The Mariners have a fairly decent chance of actually GETTING to the post season via the Wild Card (currently 1/2 behind the Tigers in the standings…)

This is the longest road trip of the year–9 games, including 6 on the left coast–so kicking it off by winning 2 of 3 is a very good start…

And the Sox are currently 25 games over 500–the best record of the season…

And Josh managed to stop his losing streak at 2, and pitched a very good game yesterday, keeping the M’s to 1 run over 6 2/3. He gave up 8 hits while striking out 9 and walking 2 He joins CC Sabathia (Cleveland), Carlos Zambrano (Cubs) , and John Lackey (Angels) as the only 14 game winners in all of baseball…

Speaking of wins, the Sox starting rotation leads the majors with 56 wins and 537 strikeouts as a team…

Javier Lopez, who has been excellent out of the bullpen for the Sox this season, was the sacrificial lamb sent to Pawtucket to clear a roster spot for Curt Schilling’s return. The reason is mainly because Lopez has options left, as opposed to someone like Kyle Snyder, who would have to clear waivers, and risk being lost to another team…From Tito: “It’s not a reflection on the way he’s been pitching…It’s difficult for him to understand. If I’m in his shoes, I’d feel the same way. He’ll be back and help us.” Lopez has 2-1 record with a 2.87 ERA in 44 appearances with the club this season.

With the fact that A-Fraud FINALLY came out of Choke-land and hit his 500th homer, the talk is surfacing about that fact that Manny is 11 runs away from the magic # himself…and potentially could make it this year…

Coming up: The VERY long awaited return to Curt Schilling to the Red Sox rotation–with every indication he will be the dominant self he has been in the past. Coming off 3 AMAZING rehab starts in Pawtucket, Before going on the DL in June, Schill was 6-4 with a 4.20 ERA… 1st pitch is 10:05pm (UGH) Jered Weaver (yes, former Skank and current thug Jeff Weaver’s brother) takes the mound for the Angels….

      Holy Buckets: :)

Great to get a series win, and tonight the return of Schill. Not even the Yankees winning is going to take away my happiness about that.

      Hope you are well,

      Ted
