Red Sox 2, White Sox 4:
Same Old Song and Dance, my friend…

Posted by Christine E. at 10:09 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

It appears that a good bullpen and good bats are mutually exclusive–all the years we had excellent offense, our bullpen would frequently implode (Scott Williamson was always good for a Jack Daniels and Maalox Cocktail…) Now, the Sox have one of the best bullpens in the business, and its taking an act of Congress to score some runs…What is going on?

And how about this for screwy–I am mad at Daisuke for giving up 3 runs on a day that the offense could only score 2–but the Sox had 11 hits–11 hits (ALL singles), but could only come up with 2 runs? WTF???

While Daisuke was not as sharp as he has been in the past (the 6 walks didn’t help), his line should have been enough to win: 5+ innings, giving up 3 runs on 2 hits and striking out 6…

And I am not actively liking JD Drew either–him or his stupid hamstring–his 14th game missed last night because of it–and on a night when he has had a bunch of success again Vasquez (.391 with 9 hits, including 3 home runs) Oh, and did I mention the Sox are unsure when he will actually be able to play again? Freakin’ wonderful….

Thankfully, the Skanks lost to Toronto, so they are still 7 games behind, rather than 6–although 8 would have bene better….. CRAP….

How bout this for awfulness? The Sox have played 36 games where they were trailing after 8 inning–ya know how many of those they have won? ONE…This is certainly not last years “come-from-behind-never-out-of-it” team…

And the “easy” home stand, where the sox were supposed to kick ass and take names? How about a current record of 3-5 with 3 more to go? yuck yuck YUCK!

Better, but still….While, yes, Manny is doing much better (batting .400 since the All-Star Break with 3 homers and 9 RBI’s, he has been the last out with the tying run on base in 2 of the 5 loses in the same time span…

Do you think Alex Cora can play right field? Since Lugo isn’t sucking so much anymore, and the fact that Dustin Pedroia has turned it around completely, Alex Cora hasn’t been getting much playing time–only 1 start since returning from the break–so with JD Drew, we get strikeout king Wily Mo. I, for one, would MUCH rather have Alex Cora in the lineup–any day of the week….Can we get a man on this? At least have a discussion?

Tonight: Josh Beckett will attempt to right the ship and go for win #13–for the 2nd time. He is opposed by Jose Contreras–I wonder if we’ll see the “spuckler”? 1st pitch is 7:05pm…

Hi Christine: last night was certainly no fun, and stupic masochist I am, I stayed up for the whole thing.

I’m like you, I keep waiting for the comeback that never happens: still, I’ll take a 7 game lead instead of being behind. Plus, in ’04, at this point we were 7 BACK. That year turned out OK. :)

Beckett is tonight: and you know what that means.

      Hope you are well,

      Ted
