    Red Sox 3, Royals 9:
    Vintage Knuckler…

Posted by Christine E. at 11:29 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (3)

And not even in a good way…

As fellow blogger, and good friend Ted said to me last night: “You know, Christine, the knuckle ball is always a fickle mistress” and once again that adage is proven right—Tim Wakefield and his unpredictable pitch are cruising, doing fairly well, and then you blink, and the game is out of hand…

Wake’s final line: 6 1/3 innings pitches, giving up 6 runs on 9 hits..From Wake: “It was 3-1 going into the seventh and I just kind of lost a feel for the ball…It just seemed not to go down at the end. I don’t know the reason why.” We don’t know either Tim, wish the hell we did…

What do you expect from a game where Julio Lugo has his 3rd 3-hit game in the last 7??? And his batting average during that span? A gaudy .538…check for pods in the basement–please…

The 2nd opinion concurs: Returning from his exam by the surgeon who took the bone chips out of his elbow a number of years ago, Brendan Donnelly will continue the path he has been on which consists of strengthening and conditioning his strained right forearm. He has been on the DL since June 17, retroactive to June 11, which is a total of 26 games missed…There is no timetable for his return…

More articles in the paper today about the possibility of the Sox going after A-Fraud when his option comes up at the end of the year. Can I just say how physically ILL the thought of this makes me??? I didn’t want him when they made that run in 2004, and I firmly believe that the Sox would NOT have won the World Series in 2004 if A-Rod has played for them. And it is a VERY distinct possibility that if the Sox sign A-Fraud, I will search for a new team to root for–this is how strongly I feel about this…Alex Rodriguez is a choker, a cheater and a clubhouse cancer–and the ONLY reasons he is doing well this year is because 1) Its a contract year for him 2) the Skanks are more than likely out of contention..

Tonight: BatSh*t Julian Tavarez takes the mound this evening to complete the 3 game stint against the Royals–which also is the last time the Sox will see them this year. Julian has not has a win in a month, so he is certainly due. Odalis Perez toes the rubber for KC. 1st pitch is at 7:05pm.

LOL Christine: it’s great to see Lugo playing like he can.

And I got mentioned in the post!! Whoo HOOO!!!

As we’ve shared a bottle of Pepto and Jack Daniel’s over this before, watching Wake pitch is like watching an impending car wreck: you close one eye, hold on, and pray for the best. Sometimes it works out, but sometimes, like last night, it doesn’t.

I miss Donnelly and his fire, but I’m thinking this may be a long term deal. Hope not.

Hope things are great and I’ll be around during game time tonight, so I’ll hopefully “talk” to you then.

      Ted
