    Red Sox 1, Toronto 2:
    I HATE games like this…

Posted by Christine E. at 11:32 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

Sounding like a broken record: Once AGAIN, the starting pitcher and the bullpen pitch brilliantly, and once AGAIN the bats stay quiet against a CRAPPY opposing pitcher, and once AGAIN the Sox lose a game they should have won…

Beckett’s Line: 8 Innings, giving up 7 hits and 2 runs while striking out 8. So when all is said and done, the Sox have a split. From Tito: “He pitched so well…other than [a two-run second inning], he was tremendous. Most nights we’re sitting here saying, ‘Well, it was a couple bad pitches early in the game and it was overall a great game.’ But when you score one, it ends up being one too many [for them].”

Are you freaking KIDDING me? Scott Boras was quoted as saying “I’d rather see him throw closer to 100 pitches than 120 pitches,” when talking about Daisuke and his pitch counts (Daisuke threw 110 in 6 innings in Saturday nights win) ASS…Tito’s response was classic: “I have a lot of respect for Scott, I really do. He can run the pitching when he lets me run the contracts, how’s that? Is that a fair tradeoff?”

With another good side session for Curt Schilling on Friday, he will pitch a simulated 2-innings at Fenway before tonight’s game. If all goes well, is there a rehab assignment in the near future? And perhaps an activation before August 1?

    Funky Stats:

    • Although it doesn’t seem like it, Mike Timlin is working on a shutout streak of 11 innings…
    • OK, I will eat my socks: Julio Lugo seems to have broken out of his abysmal slump, and is in the midst of a 5 game hitting streaking, hitting .526 (10 for 19) during that time… But I still think he is a mistake…
    • Josh Beckett’s 8th strikeout in last nights game was also his 100th for the season…
    • With this 1-run loss, (the 6th in a row) the Sox fall to .500 in that category at 14-14…
    • In the last 35 games, the Sox have scored two-or-fewer runs for the 16th time…
    • Hideki Okajima and Jonathan Papelbon have a combined 1.25 ERA in 79 innings.

Tonight: Walking Man Kason Gabbard kicks off the 3 game set against the pretty sucky Royals, throwing the 1st pitch in the Fens at 7:05pm. Brian Bannister takes the mound for KC. Can we please have a sweep here?

Hi Christine! Very glad to hear the wedding went well: I was wishing good thoughts for you on Friday-even carried a rabbit’s foot in my pocket to counteract the Friday the 13th date.

Great post: and I felt the same way: 1 measley run? Ugh. Oh well, stuff happens and we get the Royals now. And no, I don’t think a sweep is to much to ask for. :)

Congratulations again: here’s to a lifetime of happiness and great memories.
