    Red Sox 1, Seattle 2–In 11 Innings:
What IS it about this place???

Posted by Christine E. at 11:47 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

I cannot even really get that upset about yesterday’s loss, although it sucks that the Sox lost once again, to this less than stellar team. It was also their EIGHTH loss in a row in Seattle, dating back to last year. And let’s not forget it was the sweep by the Mariners last year that marked the beginning of the end of the Sox in the 2006 campaign…Its just BUGS me…

And, yet again, stupendous pitching from the staff, Daisuke going 8 strong, while only giving up 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 8…

Do I even need to say who gave up the game winning hit? Yep, Joel Pineiro. He and Julio Lugo (who struck out with 2 on in the 8th to drop his batting average to .191!) are KILLING the Sox…

As sucky as the 1st 3-game sweep of the Sox this year, it has not happened in a while: The end of August (28-30) was the last time the Sox were swept in a series of more than 2 games. Also, despite the loss, the Sox still hold the best record in the major for day games: 19-5

AND, fortunately, the Skanks lost to the Oreos last night, 4-0, so the 11 game lead in the standings still holds…AND Mercenary Roger, who was going for his 350th win, took the loss… That would be 3 loses in a row for them–and 7 of 8..HA HA…

So, the Sox have decided that Curt Schilling will not come off the DL until after the All-Star Break, instead of this earliest possible activation date, which is the week before, July 4th. Hey, if he needs the extra week to resolve the shoulder tendonitis and get right to help take the Sox to the World Series (hopefully) I am completely fine with that. From Tito: “We met this morning and went over his program…he could throw now. But I think they want to reach certain levels with testing where, again, all the things we said the other day remain true. We want him to be able to finish the season being a consistent, good pitcher. That’s why we’re trying to use good judgment. It’s not easy…”

BUT, I think the Sox need to re-think the whole Kason Gabbard thing–and bring back Jon Lester…though it looks like they are going to stick with walking man…

Is it just me, or does it seem that JD Drew gets ALOT of days off? He did not play in yesterday’s game, Wily Mo did. But he should be back in the lineup for Friday night’s game against the Rangers…

Coming Up: And Off-Day today (insert griping here) then Tim Wakefield takes the mound at 7:05 at Fenway Park Friday night to open up the 1st game of a 4 game series with the Rangers. The Sox swept ‘em in Texas–can they take 4 from them at the Fens? Robinson Tejeda pitches for Texas.

Christine, can I gripe now? ;) I HATE off days!

Tough week, and I think they just hit the wall: too many trips to the left coast in too short of a time frame. Hopefully getting back home will do them some good.

Thanks again for the important information: I now don’t have to go to Boston.com for the review of last night!

      Be good,

      Ted
