Swept…Beaten…Swept…Truer or more beautiful words were never said to a Red Sox fan when talking about the 2004 World Series…
I was recently contacted by A & E (yes, the TV network) to review one of their Red Sox DVD collections as part of their mammoth “Celebrating American’s National Pastime” sale which is running until July 4th.
So, in the mail this week I receive the Red Sox 2004 World Series Collectors Edition…Holy Buckets! Wait until you see this collection! It is JAMMED packed with tons and TONS of Red Sox Goodness–nearly 40 hours of games, and extras that any Red Sox fan would be glad to have…The collection contains:
All 7 ALCS games against the Skanks–I will probably give the 1st 3 games to my friend Eric…as the 1st time I saw them was PLENTY…But the last 4..the steal, the extra innings, Big Papi saving the Sox time and time again, Johnny Damon’s grand slam in game 7–it’s all here…
1st thing I watched was game 4–and I have a confession to make–I never saw the steal when it happened–I went to bed in the 8th inning because I was depressed and the Sox were losing and I did not want to see them get swept by the Skanks–Yeah, I know…If I had one of those bogus RSN membership cards, they would take it away…
Anyway, game 4: Can I just tell you how GREAT it was to see Bill Mueller hit again? Or see the OC, and POKEY!! It was as if I was back in 2004, hoping and wishing with all of the Nation that somehow, someway, the Sox would get it done…
And every DVD is set up by top and bottom of each inning; so if you wanted to just see the bottom of the 9th inning, you could just go there, or perhaps the game winning, walk-off homer by Big Papi after 5 hours and 2 minutes of play was more your style–just jump over the the menu and it it will take you right there….
And the best thing? NO COMMERCIALS! C’mon, I know people have Red Sox stuff on TiVo or DVD, or VCR tapes–but I doubt if you edited out the commercials–I don’t even think you can do that on TiVo!
And of course all four games of the Red Sox World Series sweep against the Cardinals is here, in the same excellent no commercial format.
And every game is in its own DVD case, and each case has what A & E calls SleeveStatsâ„¢. The front and back cover and all over the inside covers are wall to wall with everything you could possibly want to know about the game inside…
Take Game 2 of the World Series for instance…On the front cover, such trivia gems as:
- 313 pitches thrown in the game
- 45 1st pitch strikes
- 57 foul balls in the game
- It was 48 degrees at game time
- A picture of the Bloody Sock Curt wore in his start in game two against Matt Morris…
On the Back cover: The complete Box score of the game
Inside: A play by play of all that happened in the game…
And every game has these! How cool is that???
And then there is the Bonus DVD—over 30 hours of Red Sox World Series stuff including:
- Francona Press Conference when he takes over as Manager of the Red Sox
- Millar’s “Don’t Let us Win Tonight” Speech during the ALCS
- The 2004 World Series Film
- ALCS and World Series Post game celebrations
- When the Red Sox Visited the White House
- World Series Ring & Banner Ceremony on Opening Day 2005…and when Johnny Pesky gets his ring, there was not a dry eye in the house…
Now, the normal price of this amazing collection is $129.95–and that is a great deal. But if you buy it before the sale ends on July 4th you can get the whole kit and caboodle for..get this… $64.98! That is 12 DVDs, all the games, all the emotion, all the “Na Na Boo Boo, we beat the Skankees and they CHOKED……” commercial free and with all the really cool extras. And if you charge it on your MasterCard (I have a Red Sox Mastercard!) you get free shipping on any order over $50.00!
So tell ‘em it’s your birthday present, or an early Christmas present, whatever it takes, but if you’re a Red Sox fan, you need to own this collection! To order, click on the A& E Ad on the right–you will not regret it (although your family/partners/children/pets may not like it when you disappear for hours on end to enjoy the 2004 campaign over and over..;-)
Enjoy…and let me know what you think!!
