    Red Sox 4. Indians 2:
    Welcome Back, Josh Beckett!

Posted by Christine E. at 11:45 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (3)

Josh Beckett’s goes on the DL for 2 weeks and you expect less–a little rusty, a couple miles off the fast ball–just some stuff a little..off….but there was absolutely nothing off about his pitching–going 7 strong and throwing 91 pitches, he limited the Tribe to 3 hits, 1 walk, and 2 runs, while striking out 7, to take his record to 8-0…Jim Leland said a couple weeks ago that “if the All Star game was today, Josh Beckett would be my starter…” I am thinking that is probably still the case…

And what about Youk? “He is on fire” does not even begin to describe how well he is seeing the ball right now…hitting in his 9th multi-hit game, as part of his 21 game hitting streak, his batting average during the period is .358…and it was a good thing his homer in last night’s game was of the traditional variety–

Apparently, Big Papi will return to the lineup for tonight’s game, after being out for 3 with tightness in him hamstring, which he attributes to dehydration during his recent bout with the flu…Hopefully this is the end of the injury–or at least he is headed in the right direction…

Now THIS is funny: Now, Let me get this straight–The Skankees spent a buttload of money to sign Mercenary Roger to save the day, as the Skankees continue their downward spiral (14.5 games, tied with Tampa Bay, anyone??)And despite the fact that he is ready and willing to pitch this weekend in the Fens, Joe Torre refuses to bump Chien-Ming Wang, Mike Mussina and Andy Pettitte from their starts this weekend to do that. Andy Pettitte I can see, as he is lights out right now, but Moose is struggling, and Wang is inconsistent…so Mercenary Roger will start Monday’s game against the White Sox…I cannot believe that Steinbrenner will let this happen…

Always good news when Jon Lester does well..and last night was one of those nights..in another rehab start for Pawtucket, Jon went 5 innings, throwing 79 pitches(50 for strikes), while striking out 6 and limiting the Columbus Clippers to 4 hits, and no runs while walking 2…Says Jon Lester: “I thought it was good…Early on, I struggled to find my mechanics and battled through a couple of innings there. But as the game went on, everything got a little tighter.” Hell, if this is battling, we’ll take it…

Tonight: Going for the sweep, recovered from his stomach flu, and carrying a 6 game winning streak, Daisuke will toe the mound at 7:05 pm to complete this 3 game series against the Indians. Paul Byrd takes the mound for Cleveland.

Maybe by watching so many Red Sox games, I got this flu bug from Daisuke: you think? Once again, you sum up in one blog what it would take me going to 5 sports sights to get: great job.

I love the fact the team is going so well they can SLOWLY bring back Lester: I was disapointed to hear they are skipping Julian’s turn Friday to start Wake: Tavarez has been lights out vs. the MFY’s this year.

Tonight ought to be good: Take care.

PS: Thanks again for the nice words in your last post. Brought a huge smile to the face of one sick man. 🙂

Josh & Jon try hard and it shows! I am beyond miffed that Roger won’t be starting until after the Fenway series. Come on!- Like you said, if I was Steinbrenner, I wouldn’t let that fly!
