The last inside the park home run for the Sox was hit by, ironically enough, Trot Nixon, who made his return to the Fens last night as part of the Cleveland Indians and was the recipient of many joyous cheers throughout the park…Trot made this momentous event happen against the Skanks in 2005–and back in 2004, Pokey Reese (POKEY!) had one as well…but Kevin Youkilis? Like, Trot, not exactly what you would call the speediest guy on the team–or even in the top 5…In the game where he brought his hitting streak to career record of 20 games, in the 7th inning he hit a ball that rattled around in the triangle of right/center field and ran like his hair was on fire(if he had any hair) and actually scored STANDING UP…How cool is that?
And of course, since something really cool and neat happened, I totally was not watching when it happened…
And it seems that Curt Schilling may have righted the ship–at least for the moment, going 7 strong with 10 strikeouts, no walks and only giving up 1 run on six hits…
At the 50 game mark, the Sox are 35-15–can you believe they have only lost 15 games? It seems like many more than that–but since every loss feels like 20, that is not super surprising. And since dropping 2 of 3 to the Skanks–the Sox have went 4-0..and the Skanks? 0-4, which is a pretty nice downward spiral if I ever saw one. Right now, they are, get this, 13.5 (yes, THIRTEEN…) games behind the Sox and are tied for DEAD LAST with Tampa Bay! The OREOS have a better record than the Skanks right now. How much fun is this???
While he is feeling much better, Mike Timlin is not even close to where he or the Sox want him to be. In his rehab start on Sunday, he pitched 2-3 of an inning, throwing 18 pitches–and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits. This does not look good…Says Tito: “He’s going to go back to Pawtucket on Monday night and Thursday for another inning,” Francona said. “The good news is he felt pretty strong and healthy. He didn’t locate like he wants to or probably needs to…”
Coming up: The much anticipated return of Josh Beckett from the DL with a “skin avulsion”. He will take the mound against the Indians at 7:05pm. Jeremy Sowers will pitch for Cleveland.
