    Red Sox 0, Seattle 3:
Things that make you go ^(&#^@(&#^@&*#^(

Posted by Christine E. at 11:22 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

OK, so maybe JD Drew isn’t all THAT bad–he did save the Sox bacon last night from the indignity of a no hitter with a single hit in the 8th inning…Thankfully it was a quick game: 2:22…

I HATE it when the Sox score like a MILLION runs on 1 day, and then the next, they get shut out–it’s almost like they used up their 2-day run quote in 1 day…its just weird…

But Daisuke had nothing to be ashamed of. He pitched a very good game, throwing 103 pitches over 7 innings, and only giving up 3 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1…His response to his 1st start at Fenway, in front of RSN: “…during the (Opening Day) ceremonies, when my name was called, I was given a grand welcome by the fans here…It gave me goose bumps. …Same thing today when my name was called…and I felt again that I wanted to respond to the fan’s welcome. I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to respond to them in kind.”

And while their pitch counts and breakdown of balls to strikes were not that drastically different, Felix Hernandez, barely 21 (21!) years old, pitched a complete game 1-hitter on 111 pitches, striking out 6 and walking 2…

Wily Mo–Starter? The plan is to give JD Drew a day off every 10, in hopes that he will stay healthy throughout the season–to that end, Wily Mo will patrol right field in today’s final game against the Mariners. Says Wily Mo: “I’m excited, but I don’t know about the weather…When I start my first game, that’s going to be my Opening Day.”

On the back of Jon Lester’s excellent pitching performance ( 4 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 5 strikeouts, 0 walks) the next step will be to pitch 5 innings in his next turn in the rotation for Single A Greenville, The plan is 1 more start after the next, and then he will be evaluated for a path forward.’

What’s next? A note in his locker from a girl at recess?: Apparently, Jose Guillen thinks that the problems he and Brendan Donnelly have would best be solved by getting into it: “If he wants to take care of his problem, the clubhouses are pretty close…He can just send one of the bat boys to come get me outside, and then we’ll take care of this as men.” And Brendan, who never met a 4 letter word he didn’t like, had this gem: “You know,a comparable quote would be, ‘Meet me at the bike rack after school.’ That’s pretty much all I got.”

This is SO Bogus: Although Johnny Pesky is being classy about the ban from the dugout during games: “It’s not as bad as it sounds”, he does not understand why the ban is in place: “Why wouldn’t they want people like me around?” Now he will spend some time watching games from the Legends Suites, or watching the game with clubhouse security man, Joe Flanagan who has a monitor in the hall outside the clubhouse. This is AWFUL…RSN really needs to do something about the Johnny Pesky situation…NOW…

Coming up: If it doesn’t snow(!) Tim Wakefield will get the start to finish up the 1st home series of the 2007 Campaign. Jarrod Washburn will pitch for the Mariners. First Pitch: 4:25pm

Hi Christine: I rush through my sales calls to get home, turn on the tv, and….

I think I saw Noah’s ark float down Lansdowne Street. This stinks.

Great post: and I’m with you 100% on Mr. Pesky. This is a sin that he can’t be where he loves to be, and you know Papi misses him there. Great to hear on Lester, and hopefully he’s back soon.

Finally, probably ’cause I’m a guy, and even being married 15 years with 3 children, I still would have LOVED have seen Donnelly and Guillen go at it. :)

They just announced the game is postponed until May 3rd. :(

      Take care,

      Ted
