Red Sox 1, Royals 7: Opening Day Game Blog…

Posted by Christine E. at 6:10 pm in In Game Blog,Red Sox Comments (9)

4:00pm: It’s DO and RemDawg! Ahhhhhhhh

4:10: 1st Pitch! Red Sox Baseball in 2007 has officially begun! Whoo Hooo!

4:12: Julio Lugo strikes out–at least he ran the count to full while he did it…

4:13: YOUUUUUUUK!! Base hit for Youk! But can we lose that goatee? Very scary–and it take a certain type of skill to be able to carry off being bald–and he does not have it…

4:16: Big Papi gets a Double–and Youk Scores….Welcome to Red Sox baseball as it should be. Sox 1, Royals 0.

4:18 JD Drew gets a walk in his very 1st bat as a Red Sox.

4:25 Jason Varitek is out #3 and Gilga has thrown 27 pitches in the 1st inning…

4:30: RemDawg and DO have already mentioned FOUR TIMES that Royals RF Mark Teahen used to play 3rd base, but have moved to right this year. We could make this a drinking game! At this rate, I could be drunk by the 4th inning…

    4:34 3 consecutive base hits given up by Schilling–with 1 out…

4:36 Phenom Alex Gordon comes to the plate–so he hit really well in DOUBLE A ball…what does that mean? And he strikes out, chasing a really bad pitch….Yep, Double A….

4:40: then Curt WALKS Ryan Shealy to score the tying run–and the cameras go to Tito in the dugout with his back turned–probably loading up on that tasty bubble gum and chew mix he likes so much…Farrell to the mound for the 1st time this season–was sort of hoping it would not be for another inning or 5…

4:42 Russ Gload mercifully flies out to end the inning of 33 pitches for Curt, leaving the bases load…major disaster averted–for now…

4:43: NESN showed that stupid Airline commercial where all the folks are on a beach in Florida and they are whining cause there is ONE FREAKING CLOUD IN THE SKY ” The weather was so much nicer yesterday” Oh yeah, my heart freaking bleeds for you–we had 14 inches of snow 2 weeks ago–and they are calling for snow showers this weekend here NE PA! Whaah!

4:45: picture of the pretty waterfall at Kauffman–I wish Fenway has a waterfall-but then a Sox fan would get drunk at a game and try to drown a Skankees fan…hmmmm…..

4:46: ‘Tek pops out–the slump continues

4:47: Coco up–does anyone else think that thing he odes with his fingers is weird and annoying? He then grounds out…

4:48: Pedroia gets a hit! But then stupidly thinks its a double and gets thrown about about 15 feet from 2nd base…to end the inning…Nice Job Dustin!

4:50: Schilling back out on the mound, who gets John Buck to ground out to Loogie-who actually makes the play!

4:53: Triple to Tony Pena, Jr…UGH….

4:56: David DeJesus strikes out–which is the 2nd for Curt…

4:58: Grudzielanek is now 2 for 2 against Curt in Today’s game–as he just got a base hit to score Tony Pena, Jr. Red Sox 1, Royals 2…

5:00: 3rd strike out for Curt on Teahen–did you heard he moved form 3rd base to right field?

    5:01: Foxwoods commercial…welcome back NESN…

5:03: Lugo strikes out AGAIN–that would be 2…

5:05: Big Papi with a dribbler to 1st–another 1-2-3 inning for Gil Meche….

    5:09: a 13 pitch, 1-2-3 inning for Curt–Finally!

5:18: JD drew gets his 1st hit as a member of the Red Sox–and yep, his arm IS still attached…

5:20 ‘Tek just struck out–please God of all things baseball, please do not let the #6 place in the line up be a…huge…sucking…black…home…

5:32..Just opened the New Gameday–have you seen it? WAY slick…I open it just in time to see Grudzielanek hit a double…and score 2 more..Red Sox 1 Royals 4…

5:40: Not to be left out, Teahen (he moved from 3rd base, ya know) get a single and scores Grudzielanek. Score is now Red Sox 1, Royals 5…

5:43: Julio Lugo just struck out for the THRID TIME TODAY..remind me, again, why signing him was a good idea???

5:45: Javier Lopez comes in for the bottom of the 5th..and hits Alex Gordon–probably the only way Double A Phenom is getting on base today…

5:46: But then there is that GIDP by Shealy that erases both of them….

5:51: I have no idea how people do these in game blogs on a regular basis… Kudos to them…

5:54: Youk gets a base hit, but then gets thrown out at 2nd after the ball got away from the 1st baseman and he thought he could get the extra base…..thought wrong…

5:56: more whining by annoying Floridians…

5:59: Okajima makes his major league debut–and promptly gives up a homer to John Buck–how do you say, this freakin BITES in Japanese? Red Sox 1, Royals 6…

6:02: But Okajima manages to get out of the rest of the inning unscathed…

6:08: Ya know, a 7 run 7th would not be unwelcome here…as JD Drew grounds out for Out #1..

6:09: After the SUCKY 1st inning, Gilga has really settled down–he just threw his 90th pitch…and got Mike Lowell to fly out to left

6:10: And Jason Varitek grounds out…Is it too early to make reservations at the Tobin Bridge?

6:13: The Sox will now have “Monster Mondays” every Monday the sox have a game, the pre-show will be a mighty 90 minutes long…too bad I’ll probably never see it..

6:14 Okajima back out there for another inning…and a 6.75 ERA…with scores like these, it won’t matter that Papelbon is our closer..we’ll never see him….But the blame of this game is not in our bullpen, but in our starter–I have no idea what happened–maybe he should have faced more hitters about Single A…

6:18: Tito calls Brendan Donnelly–if worse comes to worse he could always CURSE them to death…

    6:20: Just showed Curt’s final line: 8 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks and 5 strike outs…in 4 innings…..UGH…

6:22: and Brendan comes through with a strikeout to Shealy to end the inning..Still Sox 1, Royals 6…

6:24: Top of the 8th inning, and Gilga is STILL In the game…I guess THIS is what they paid this guy $55 million over 5 years for…to strike out Coco for Out #1

6:27: Dustin Pedroia gets a single, and Gila is lifted from the game to thunderous applause….Hi line for today: 7 1/3 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 6 strikeouts and 1 walk–for a tidy 1.23 ERA..CRAP…..

6:31: Julio Lugo FINALLY does something–he gets a single–man on 1st and 2nd for Kevin Youkilis–I’m sorry, the goatee is not working for me…at all….He looks like Rip Torn in “Men in Black”…

6:42: Joel Peralta manages to stop the bleeding, by getting both Youk and Big Papi to strike out….&*#(*@&#*&@(*)#&*(!

6:43: We counter with a Joel of out own–Joel Pineiro–hopefully the score won’t end up 10-1…as he gives up a single to Ross Gload..

6:45: But then gets John Buck to pop up for out #1…

6:48: But then gives up a TRIPLE to Pena (his 2nd of the day) to score Ross Glad–what the HELL kind of name is Ross Gload????

    6:49: And Joel is given the hook–with a 27.00 ERA….ooooooh boy…

6:51: And JC Romero makes his Red Sox debut…and promptly gets out DeJesus for out #2..and got Grudzielanek to fly out to end the inning…

6:54: And of course the Skanks came back from a debacle of a game they were losing 5-3 and 3 errors to WIN 9-5…double CRAP…

6:58 Peralta back on the mount for the top of the 9th–is anything is going to happen, this is it…Manny is up–and is quickly 0-2…and he then strikes him out looking…

7:00: The Sox bring in Wily Mo to hit for JD Drew..and he strikes out as well…

7:01: Mike Lowell up…but is 0-3 today…but hits his 1 double of the season–whooo hooo!

7:03: But now, is Jason Varitek….and he flies out to 3rd-basemen-turned-right fielder Mark Teahen…

7:06: Schilling takes the 1st loss of the season–and already we are starting out in 2nd place…

An off day tomorrow–and then we play them again on Wednesday night, 8:10pm, Josh Beckett will face off against Odalis Perez…I really hope Josh is as brilliant as he should be…

Christine, you did a great job with the in game blogging. That must be why I could not pull your site up during the game! Wish it’d had a better outcome, but you need to do that periodically: you are very good at it.

Beckett will bring it Wed. night: stone-cold lock. :)

      Have a great night.

      Ted

      Hey Ted:

Thank you for the kind words..:-) I have been having intermittant trouble with the site today; that may have been the problem as well…

I did 1 game blog last year–I think this one was easier..all I can say is that TiVo really helps!

Hope you are well–and i hope you are right about Beckett!

      Go Sox!

    3. Ted D says:

Do you have DirecTV? Because I didn’t know it, but I have something called Game Mix where I can watch up to 8 games at one time! It’s great during the commercials. I talked to a buddy of mine, and he does not get it. I’m just curious if you do as well.

    4. Christine E. says:

Yes, I have Direct TV–and I heard about that–I think it costs an extra $39.00 a year to get it–but this week is “Preview Week” which is to entice people to buy MLB extra innings, so it’s probably free this week..:-)

I’ll have to check and see if I get it as well…

    5. Kaylee says:

great game log.You are great at it hopefully we wil win wednesday:)

    6. Christine E. says:

Hey Stranger! How is the new job? Are you doing ok? I noticed you were a bit upset over at Ted’s….

Hope you are doing ok, and that you feel better!

Yes, hopefully we WILL win Wednesday–Ted seems to think so…;-)

      Go Sox!

    7. Kaylee says:

my job is great although I spend more time on the internet then actually working:) Yeah I am okay I guess….I will be fine….I AM WORRIED ABOUT Beckett this year though!

    8. Christine E. says:

I am glad you like your job…:-)

Hang in there, we’ll all be alright–Josh Beckett included..:-)

      Go Sox!

    9. Ted D says:

Christine, I think you and my buddy are getting ripped off. He has had DirecTV for about 6 years and they are telling him the same thing: I’m getting the package plus this Game Mix for the same price. You might want to call them and find out. It is pretty sweet to be able to look at 8 games at once.
