    Red Sox 1, Mets 4:
    Am I the only one?

    Who feels that this whole Spring Training thing has gone on long enough?

    There has been a little more than 3 weeks of baseball games that don’t count, with the Sox holding a less than impressive 7-9-1 record.I probably should be grateful there IS actually baseball–too bad only about ONE in 5 games is not at 1:05 pm–so its not like I actually get to see any of them–even if they were televised here in NEPA. And we have a little more than 17 days to go until April 2nd, until the MLB Extra Innings Package kicks in and once again DO and Rem Dawg are back in the booth and better than ever…

    It’s almost as bad as it was in the winter–only now, there are things to talk about–The same 4 things OVER AND OVER…

    Here are a few…

    1. Has Josh Beckett REALLY learned from his mistakes last year? We have been hearing all the stories, how he looks phenomenal, how he will not throw as many fast balls, and is working on his off-speed pitches–he even told the new guy to “trust ‘Tek” which is something he did precious little last year…So why do I get the feeling that its all lip service and that once the season starts he will revert to last years stuff? At this point–we need less talking and more pitching…

    2. Curt decided he wanted to pitch another year. He said he wanted the deal done before Spring Training ended, or he would become a free Agent in the off season. The Sox said “Lets wait and see” Curt says “OK, case is closed. While I am disappointed, I understand, and I will be a free agent at the end of the season” So WHY are we still talking about it? He said how he felt, said he is not going to do some snarky revenge thing like go to the Skankees, and is preparing for an excellent season–Only no one believes that he isn’t pissed and is planning the snarky revenge thing. Folks, leave the guy alone–it’s over until it’s NOT, and talking about it changes nothing–and its not ever newsworthy anymore…

    3. This freaking CLOSER thing–YES, we know we need a closer, Everyone on the (currently) 47 man roster knows we need a closer–so does Theo, John Henry, et all, and that deaf dumb and blind kid over playing pinball knows too…Problem is: THERE AREN’T ANY AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW. Did we want a “maybe with Gagne at $4-6 million? No…Papelbon is not an option–at least not yet–and I don’t think he will be, unless the Sox get very desperate. So that leaves Tavarez, Timlin, Donnelly, and Pineiro (Air Supply and all…) I am still waiting for Julian to come out to pitch with no pants on someday, plus it is VERY well known that the only place he seems to work is as a starter. Timlin cannot even stand up straight at this point from the oblique strain, never mind pitch. Joel….just….doesn’t….have….it…So that leaves Brendan &^*(@#^&#%^@&#^(@&*^#*&(^ Donnelly–warts and all. So until there is a trade or we are in very deep trouble–could we talk about something else?

    4. I am very excited about Daisuke Matsuzaka–and cannot WAIT to see him pitch–but there is NO GYROBALL–and I don’t really care that he ate bacon and crab legs for breakfast this morning…I want to see him pitch totally dominate–and if I can’t have that–I was 15-16 wins this year as he acclimates, then 20+ after that. Does the world really need something called Daisuke Daily?

    I don’t think I ask for much–Real games–and to talk about something other than the above…and I still have 17 days until that will happen…

    What am I supposed to do in the meantime?

      Christine: no Gyroball? Next thing you’ll be telling me is that the Easter Bunny isn’t real, and Santa is actually my Mom and Dad!

      Great post, and agree 100% on Schilling.

      And Beckett is going to be the ace of the staff this year. I really believe that. He is too good not to be.

    2. Christine E. says:

      What do you mean, Santa and the Easter Bunny are not real??? ;-)

      I am hopefuly Josh will prove me wrong–But he is SUCH a hothead..

      Thanks so much for your comments

      Go Sox!

    3. Ted D says:

      Christine, yeah he’s a hothead. But you gotta love the fact he was woofin’ at Ryan Howard last year in a ST game when Howard could probably take Beckett out with one hand tied behind his back.

      The nice term for what Beckett has is “gumption”.

      And he has it. In spades. I love his makeup: he could be the next Roger: he has that good of stuff. It’s just a matter of his head catching up with his heart. Listen to Tek Josh, and you’ll be just fine.

      Oh, sorry to spoil the Easter Bunny and Santa for you. My bad. :)

    4. Christine E. says:

      That’s OK, Ted.. I’ll be fine…

      ;-)

      Go Sox!

      Hey guys and gals. I am a Cubs fan that checks out Curt’s blog 38 pitches. FYI, if I was’nt a Cubs fan, I would be a Sox guy. I root for them every chance I get, mainly cos I hate the Yanks. Anyway. The reason I made this comment is that I am having trouble filling up a private h2h fantasy league on cbssportsline.com. It is a free, private league. I need at least 2 more teams, but I would like to have 4 more. If any of you want to join, be my guest. All you have to do is log on to cbssportsline.com, click the free fantasy baseball link. When asked to pick a league to join, click private and enter the league name “wanna have a catch” the password is “shoeless joe”. I would love to have some Sox fans in the mix, we’ve got Cubs, Astros, Braves, representing so far. We are all good natured people who won’t cuss people or post objectionable material….at all. It is a VERY competitve group of people as well. Plz help me out. Thanks.

    8. laura says:

      In the meantime…we just complain on our sites and hope the days go by really fast :) You’re right in that at least there is baseball, but what does it matter to us folks outside RSN? We need real baseball and we need it now!

    9. Christine E. says:

      Kaylee:

      Yes, Laura, we who are not graced by having NESN without having to pay for it need baseball to happen..and soon!

      Thank you for your comments ladies!

      Go Sox!

    10. Kaylee says:

    11. michleg says:

      The REAL Game is BADLY-Needed:

      The fact that Josh wasn’t wild is good;

      The Fact that he’s a Gopher Ball Specialist is NOT good;

      @ least you didn’t have to watch YES is compensation;

      & my St Patrick’s Day Parade Article is up & running, photos & all.

    12. Alice Kinston says:

      A formidable share, I just given this onto a colleague who was doing a bit analysis on this. And he in reality bought me breakfast as a result of I found it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the treat! However yeah Thnkx for spending the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love reading extra on this topic. If doable, as you turn into expertise, would you mind updating your weblog with more details? It is extremely helpful for me. Big thumb up for this weblog put up!
