    Good News for Lester?

Posted by Christine E. at 10:16 am in Random Thoughts,Red Sox,Signings and Trades Comment (1)

The current rumor around town is that Jon Lester’s latest scans have been clean and that his cancer appears to be in remission. Lester was diagnosed in late August with a rare form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, known anaplastic large cell lymphoma, and began treatment in September in Boston but returned home to Seattle to continue at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. While he still has one more treatment to go, it looks likely he will be with the Sox when they begin Spring Training in February. Whoooo Hooo!

In the “not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing” department: When Grady Little, who is at the Winter Meetings this week, was asked about J.D. Drew, who hit .283 with 20 homers and 100 RBIs for the Dodgers last season, Little said, “He did a tremendous job for us. He did everything we asked of him. He’s got tremendous ability. Great tools.” Asked about Drew’s outfield play, Little said, “You won’t see many better than J.D.” I have no idea how exactly to respond to that–only to say $14 Million dollars a year is TOO FREAKIN MUCH…

The resounding theme with regard to the Manny Ramirez “should I Stay or should I go ” tour is that the Sox “want too much” for him.” Is he one of the best right handed hitters EVER? Yes–do people want to auction the farm for a headcase? No so much…Apparently, the teams he is willing to be traded to has now grown to 13-I think one of them is even the Dallas Cowboys, but that is just speculation…

And with 9.5 days to go in the Daisuke Matsuzaka sweepstakes, there is no indication that either side has budged from their initial proposals…oooooh boy…

At this point, the Julio Lugo deal seems to be in flux–thankfully, Theo is realizing that $9 million a year is TOO FREAKIN MUCH (Is there an echo?). Lugo wants to play in Boston cause no one else will let him play shortstop–the Mets want him at 2nd base, and the cubs want him in center. So the new game plan? Alex Cora at 2nd, and Dustin Pedroia at short–Dustin Pedroia, DUSTIN PEDROIA????? Crap…But I like him better than Lugo…So maybe we could get Mark Loretta back? huh? please? Or Pokey Reese? Why is no one considering him? Huh? Huh? HUH?

There is like 4,700 days until the season starts…ok, actually, its 117…But it FEELS like 4,700…
