    Miscellaneous stuff

In the never ending lust for Julio Lugo–the going price right now is 4 years/$32 million–huh?????? Noooooooooooo!!! Don’t do it! And the worst part of all is they could have had A-Gon for HALF of that–yes, A-Gon bat is lesser, but he is 10 times the defense Lugo is……

Probably the only way this would not happen is if the Rangers trade for Manny–and give us shortstop Michael Young as part of the deal–I am not sure which is less likely–that someone would actually TAKE Manny, although if people are willing to pay $136 million for SORIANO, $38 million for Manny for 2 years, is a steal…and, apparently, Manny has provided a list of teams he is willing to go out, rumored to be about 10: Lets just hope the team that wants him is on the list…

Looks like Mark Loretta is gone for good: Loretta recently indicated that no offer has been forthcoming from the Sox. It appears that Dustin Pedroia will be manning 2nd base, despite that fact that he is probably still 6 months to a year away from being ready for the show…Loretta hit .285 in 155 games last season for the Sox.

While it looks like Trot will not be returning, especially if the Sox sign JD Drew–don’t give up hope: Word on the street is there isn’t much buzz about Trot. While I think it would suck that he get less money, the Sox may consider signing him for a cheaper short term deal, which he may accept, depending on his other options….

Housekeeping: pitchers Kyle Jackson (AA Portland) and Phil Seibel (AAA Pawtucket) have been added to the Sox ML roster. Matt Clement, Jon Lester, Dave Pauley and Abe Alvarez have been activated from the 60 day disabled list, with Alvarez going to Pawtucket, and the rest going to the Sox roster…

Its official: Nomar will stay in Dodger Blue, agreeing to a 2-year, $18.5 million contract, which includes a $2.5 million signing bonus, deferred until 2009/2010. The contract also includes a $250,000 bonus for each year for reaching 500 plate appearances…Doesn’t it seem like yesterday when Nomar belonged to Red Sox Nation? I will forever miss him…even if he did marry Mia…

The Soriano deal is the 5th most expensive contract in history? For WHAT? I know he is only the 4th player in history to have 40 homers/stolen bases in a season, but he is a crappy teammate…like the Cubs need THAT kind of bad Karma…

Moose hunting: The Skanks have, pending the obligatory physical, signed Mike Mussina to a 2-year, $23 million contract. He was 15-7 with a 3.51 ERA in the 2006 Campaign

Matsuzaka Countdown: 23 days and counting…tick tock tick tock…
